From then on,gun grabbing became commonplace among African Americans throughout most of America due to its convenience and resultant increased reliability. Gun grips continued to be popular among this group well into the 20th century

Cedartown is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Cedartown is located on the southern border of Fulton County and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It is bordered by Brookhaven to the east and north, Lawrenceburg to the west and south, and Roswell to the northwest. The townsite was first settled in 1832 by pioneer John Cagle. The name Cedartown comes from a Cherokee word meaning "a place where cotton trees grow." In 1835, Captain James McCarty built his home at what is now Cedartown Square. By 1840, there were 10 families living in Cedartown. In 1851, General Nathan Bedford Forrest founded Fort Forrest on land near present-day Decatur Street and I-75 south of town. For two years (1852-1854), Fort Forrest was used as a training ground for Confederate forces during the American Civil War. Afterward it became known as Camp Forrest or simply "Fort". In 1865, it became known as Fort McDowell after General William Troup's victory over Union troops at that location during the Battle of Missionary Ridge. It has been said that when Secretary of War Edwin Stanton learned about Confederate efforts to move supplies through Georgia into North Carolina through Fortress Monroe he ordered General Robert E Lee to end this operation before it caused any more damage in Georgia than had already been done! In 1876-1877 Cedarta's post office moved from downtown to its present site off Hwy Swamp Road adjacent to Back Creek Lake after being closed by mail service due to budget cuts within Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest's administration specifically targeting rural Atlantans! In 1886 ownership of Fort McDowell passed from Army Reserve Commanders Deptd Phoenix AZ Territory until sold outright in 1902 back within Ft McDowell Military Park which still houses today’s Daylesford Golf Course & Aquatic Center!!! Cedarta contained an arsenal including 4 cannons (2 12IN smoothbores)& one 3IN rifled cannon with 50 rounds ammo each stored above floor level around building complex also magazine for 8 rifles/24 pistols( later replaced with 20Rifles/10Pistols). Post Office moved 5 times over its life thru out many different locations before settling on current location: Home square (now corner Hwy Swamp Rd & 2nd Ave SW), Ground Floor - antebellum white house Bldg., 2nd Floor - School House (later used as Baptist Church), 3rd Floor - Masonic Temple
