At that point all hope seemed lost for Georgians across the state as Sherman's march closed in on Atlanta. However under command of Captain William Troupadier and several hundred men under Colonel Edward Pritchard advanced through snow drifts and over rough terrain until they reached the river where they halted for the night waiting for reinforcements coming up from Chattanooga; unlike Sherman's more aggressive movement further north where he destroyed much equipment before halting at Newtonia Gap northeast of Marietta on February 17th 1865 following his Assault on Kennesaw Mountain Campaign On January 6th 1861 Governor Andrew Johnson called a special session of the Georgia legislature todraw up plans for secession from the United States based on increasing concerns about slave trade within its borders as well as financial problems caused by an increase in military spending while also experiencing heavy taxation levels due to land acquisitions by southern states during the American Civil War including Georgia! On January 10th 1861 Confederate General Jubal Early entered Athens with 1,500 cavalrymen pillaging carriages carrying supplies and munitions leaving behind many human casualties;vernight early morning Johnston sent word throughout Athens that Early had halted his advance eastward along I-285/SR-2 road so that carriages could not be looted or burned! This action effectively postponed any potential battle between Johnston's forces and Early's column which would have taken place very close to central Athens giving Union forces time to regroup before any battle could take place! After deliberating for some time he ordered 200 horse artillery guns drawn up along I-285 southeast of town concurrent with 600 foot artillery batteries deployed along SR-2 road northeast of town forming two lines parallel each about six miles long! This double deployment effectively stopped Early if he ever attempted another raid into central Athens!!! Although this move may have been motivated by fearlessness rather than actual strategy it did manage to buy Time for Union forces commanded by George Thomas at nearby AJC Field Headquarters where he began planning Tate’s Offensive operations which eventually led toSavannah Campaign!!!!!

Rankin's plan failed because he could not find anyone with enough money to invest in the project. After Rankin's death, his heirs sold most of his land but kept some for themselves which is now known as Cartersville Cemetery. In 1835, General Nathan Bedford Forrest march from Chattanooga to Atlanta on his way to fight against Andrew Johnson. As he reached Cartersville, he found food stores almost empty due to lack of demand from soldiers on leave at home. Forrest decided thatAtlanta would be his new headquarters so he ordered all able-bodied men within twenty miles of Atlanta to gather together and march northeast towards Cobb County where they would rendezvous with him at Marietta Creek Bridge near present day Thomson City (Mt Auburn). When they arrived too late for Forrest, most instead formed into groups roaming through northern Fulton County before finally disbanding without encountering any military opposition or taking any prisoners

The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century, thanks to its location on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. By 1905,Carter'sville had a population of over 1,000 people.
