On February 14th of 1886, Captain Lacey presented a petition to the Carpenters Local Lodge #2 asking them to form a club Specifically aimed at promoting pistol shooting within their organization; this petition was granted on March 2nd of 1886. The European settlers started out by settling down on the trading post of Hitchitiya which was located near present day Cartersville. They soon realized that this location had potential for development because of its strategic location midway between SECONDARY SOURCES OF WATER AND ELECTRICITY IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA (SECONDARY SOURCES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEMS, PUBLIC SAFETY, TRANSPORTATION) The first settler to take advantage of this opportunity was John A. Carter who built a store and log cabin in 1811 on what is now known as Carter’s Hill. By 1815, there were over 20 buildings in town, most of which were used for trade or function as public buildings such as churches and schools. The town was originally named “Macon” after James Macon, a British general who fought against the Creek Nation during Indian Removal. However, due to pressure from local residents, Macon changed his name to “Cartersville” after he received permission from the government to do so. In 1824, John Capps became the first white man to die in Cartersville when he drowned while crossing an creek near present-day Decatur Street

The city of Atlanta began to grow rapidly and Cartersville lost its significance as a rural community. However, it has continued to maintain a strong sense of culture and community even as its residents have moved away for work or other reasons. The town's history can be traced back to 1831 when several farmers founded what would become Cartersville on land that they had acquired from the Creek Nation during their war with the United States government. At that time, Georgia was an open territory and Indian ownership of land was common throughout much ofoutherland. In 1850, two years after Georgia became a state, Cartersville had only five buildings and no citizens. However, by 1870, when it had grown to 10 stores and 150 residents, Cartersville had become an important center for agricultural trade and commerce within Butler County. In 1889-90, investors arrived in Cartersville with plans to develop the local economy into one based largely on manufacturing products such as textiles and shoes. Unfortunately for these developers, business slowed down once new transportation methods became available; however, this didn't mean that development stagnated or died out entirely in Cartersville – instead it slowly shifted towards more cultural activities such as arts & crafts exhibitions (through businesses like Old Fashioned Clothing Company) and social events like dances given by various churches (such as First Presbyterian). It wasn't until 1990 that things really started happening in Cartersville – two years after businessmen developed plans for developing an auto plant adjacent to the existing textile factory there which would eventually lead to increased economic activity overall within Butler County thanks to jobs created at both companies! And so it goes: through hard times combined with some amazing progress over time – all because of one small town’s determination not give up on itself!
