Carrollton is a city in Georgia. The population was 11,828 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The first inhabitants of what would become Carrollton were Creekside people who lived along the Chattahoochee River Valley in what is now Carrollton and Decatur counties. The first known settler in this area was John Worth, who arrived in 1821. In 1829, General James Hogg founded the town of Decatur on land that he had purchased from the Creek Indians near present-day Griffin Road and White Street in northeast Carrollton. In 1832, when Decatur became part of Cobb County, General Hogg transferred ownership of the town to Cobb County for $1,000. A year later, during Reconstruction, William PemberTON built a grocery store and post office here on West Main Street which served as the town's center until it burned down in 1865. A new grocery store was built on South Main Street (now Peach Bottom Drive) in 1902 by Wm Atherton & Sons under license from Atlanta Mayor Nathan Bedford Forrest II after plans were developed to build an arena there for use as an exhibition ground for local baseball teams; however no action was taken because Atlanta mayor Andrew Johnson vetoed all appropriation bills related to football stadiums at that time. The city's first fire department – put together by two volunteer firefighters – responded to a call at 12:30 a.m., July 3, 1870 from a house on Third Street which caught fire due to defective construction; one firefighter died and three others were injured when they attempted to suppression the blaze with buckets filled with water applied from hoses brought up from below using poles set into puddles beneath them; this also marked the beginning of long-term street cleaning efforts which continued until about 1965 when all but one resident had moved out or been forced out by developers . Carrollton is a small city in metro Atlanta, Georgia. The population was 25,645 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. Carrollton was founded in 1802 by General James Robertson as a small trading post on the Chattahoochee River. In 1821, Robertson and his family moved to what is now Carrollton from safer surroundings on the east side of Atlanta. The first courthouse in town was built in 1824 and remained active until 1906 when it burned down. The present courthouse building was erected between 1915 and 1917 by local contractor James Hancey after being designed by architect John Blythe Jr. In 1863, Confederate General Robert Ewell established a headquarters here as part of his operations leading up to Battle of Chickamauga. Afterward, Ewell's troops continued to use Carrollton for storage and for other purposes until 1865 when they finally retreated northward following the battle. During World War II, many American military personnel were based here before being sent overseas; notably Major General Edward Rucker who served during both world wars as commander ofacked forces in Europe known as Operation Dragoon which aimed to open up European airspace to Allied air raids while also providing cover against Axis armies moving into southern France and Belgium prior to invasion that summer. Aftermath: Coca-Cola Bottling Plant opened in 1924 By 1945 Coca-Cola had become an international brand with bottling plants throughout North America; all but one located outside Atlanta (still operational). United States Steel Corporation acquired Coca-Cola Bottling Company assets including locations in Decatur Heights and Carrollton making it their largest single acquisition ever at the time - symbolizing Rapid City's emergence as an industrial center during post-war America's Golden Age
