Carrollton, Georgia is a small town in south Cobb County, Georgia. The population was 7,362 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. In 1825, Colonel William Stephens founded what would become Carrollton and donated land to the town in memory of his friend and mentor, General James Robertson. The first scopes were built by Major John Merrill in 1822 and he used a telescope that he had made himself from three strips of board nailed together with jute thread. A telescope bench was also built in 1830 by J.B.Eaton and it still stands today within the town limits on Main Street across from the Post Office building/library). In 1850, General Nathan Bedford Forrest bought some land in eastern Cobb County for $5,000 and began to develop it into what became Forrest Park (now known as Midtown Atlanta). He commissioned architect George Paley to design a new courthouse which was completed in 1852. The first school in Carrollton was called “Old School” until it moved to its current location on Third Street NE in 1865 when local Mineral Springs School became available for students on acreage purchased from Judge John Youngstedt (father-in-law of Governor Andrew Johnson). Reverend Henson Sibley started teaching free black children (ages 3-14) from 1865 until 1889 when school Superintendent Elijah Hicks opened an all white school near Peachtree Road SW which continued until 1955 when African American students were finally allowed into the school through integration efforts led by businesswoman Gwendolyn Brooks.) On November 5th 1888 two versions of an advertisement appeared in newspapers around the South advertising a unique opportunity for amateur astronomers: “For sale - neat 2 foot aperture refractor Telescope - excellent condition – very low price – call or write Mr Charles Fenton at his residence” Although both ads say "for sale", one actually refers to an old fashioned reflecting telescope which had been given away by Dr David Brewster who owned nearby Old Mutual Life Insurance Company building now known as The Georgian Place John Whitehead who operated Whitestone Glasses store next door caught wind of this ad and decided to sell them what turned out to be one of only 100 telescopes ever made! The Cooke & Gray company produced their own refractors starting about 1800 but these usually possessed a more powerful 4 inch aperture than these early Whitehead telescopes! This particular example has a 2 foot aperture making it quite rare indeed! He also mentioned that there are other similar items for sale including eyepieces etc., so if you have something like this not listed then please do not hesitate to contact him!

As of the 2010 census, Carrollton had a total area of 21.8 square miles (60.6 km2), all of it land. The first settlers in what is now Carrollton were farmers who arrived in 1785 from England and Ireland. The original town site was near present-day Roswell Road and Interstate 75. In 1820, a post office called "Carrboro" was established in what is now Carrollton; it remained in operation until 1875. In 1853, two brothers named John Pemberton founded Pemberton Paper Co., which became one of the largest paper companies in Georgia until its closure in 1984. Other early businesses included Wabash Shoes & Boot Mfg., Jardine Rubber Co., and Cook's Feed store before disbanding during prohibition years because they did not have state licenses to sell alcohol! Many residents still remember these days when many groceries could only be bought at local grocery stores! After World War II ended, industries such as textiles, small appliances and plastics flourished due to new technology brought over from Japan and other countries during that time period; however, by 1960 most industry had already disappeared or closed down leaving factories idle for years on end! One notable exception to this was Litton Industries which opened up shop here soon after WWII bringing new life back into traditional textile mills such as those located outside New York City! After more than fifty years of growth, Carrollton reached its peak during the nineteenth century with over two thousand residents. However, a series of economic setbacks led to the town's decline and eventual abandonment in the twentieth century. Today, little remains of the once thriving community except for a few contributing buildings and some annual festivals. The history of Carrollton began with John Carroll, who settled on a farm near what is now known as downtown Carrolton in 1837. The first settler in what would become Carrollton was James Robertson, who arrived from Scotland three years earlier with his family. In 1839, Robertson purchased 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of land east of present-day downtown Carrolton from Captain Thomas Dillard for $25 worth of goods and services plus $3 per acre (1/100th franc). At that time,Carrollotton consisted only of a few homes and barns. John Neely Starbuck erected the first store on Main Street in 1840 while still living at home; it later became known as "The Store That Stayed Open All Night." The first post office operated at 301 Main Street from 1841 to 1846; it was renamed "CarrollTON" after nearby Carrolton Hall which had been built by Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest to celebrate Cobb County's650th anniversary year that year. In1849, Judge Elisha Swayne donated 5 acres (20 ha) adjacent to what is nowknown as Old Town Square to be used for agricultural purposes; this donation helped start what would eventually become one of Cobb County’s most important industries – agriculture – which continues today as cotton farming operations account for almost 60 percentof all employment within Carrolton limits . In 1860, when Atlanta moved into its new city limits less than two miles (3 km) away from downtown Carrolton%, many people decided to move their businesses out of central Cobb County and into areas such as northeast Atlanta or Marietta because transportation options were much better there . However , despite several attempts by local officials to revive business activity through various initiatives such as an ordinance establishing Sunday trading hours throughout the towns area , nothing changed until 1865 when Mayor Jno David McCullough established an experimental school system called “The School For All Seasons” . This program allowed children living below poverty lines inside or outside cities accessto education without having anything taken away from them thereby stimulating development within these neighborhoods . One significant event which took place during this time period occurred on November 25th 1865 when Confederate Major General Jubal Early came into town seeking supplies before his march up Iuka River towards Chattanooga ; he found no response from Mayor David McCullough so he set off alone armed with just six men against 10 Militia men under Colonel John Pembert ; however , McCullough quickly gathered 50+ other citizens including Chancellor Richard Witherspoon and Sheriff Nathan Bedford Forrest - all dressed like farmers -and leading 100orses behind him singing “Hail To The Chief” - resulting in Early being forced back onto Highway 22 west of town where he surrendered unconditionally four days later
Carrollton was founded in 1802 by John Carroll. The city was named for General George Washington, who had served as its first mayor. The population of Carrollton increased rapidly after the discovery of oil in the area in 1901. In 1907, the city annexed neighboring towns of Dunwoody and Roswell.
