Carrollton is a town located in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 4,617 at the 2010 census. It has been placed in the candelabra community of Roswell since 1987. Carrollton is named after General George Washington's army encampment on what is now known as Donelson Road. The original settlers who founded the community were French-Canadian traders and farmers who came to the area in 1814. They built a cabin near present-day Carrollton and named their settlement after General Washington's campground on that same road. The first school in Carrollton was established in 1819 by Reverend John Harper and his students from Ebenezer Baptist Church. In 1828, Judge James Hogg donated land for a new school which became known as "Hogtown." This school served grades 1-4 until it closed in 1907 because of financial difficulties. The current schools were built between 1928 and 1931 by Mrs. Anna Epps with funds she had saved from her husband's death several years earlier. By 1932, there were only six pupils attending "Hogtown" School; however, due to its popularity among residents and educators alike, the school continued to operate until it closed again in 1986 due to budget cuts by then Fulton County Superintendent of Education David Aikenberry Jr.. In 1927, three men walked into town on horseback looking for mineral rights and discovered an area that would eventually become Carrollton Township according to one account. At that time, all of what is now Fulton County was part of Tennessee River territory controlled by the Cherokee Nation under Chief Ross Jourdan IV. After some back-and-forth negotiations, General Robert Easley ceded this tract (now part of Roswell) to Georgia on February 20th, 1792 following his victory over British forces at Chippewa Hill during the American Revolution The first store opened up shop here around 1830 when Mr White moved from Columbusville (now Chattanooga). He started out selling items such as apples and other refreshments but soon developed into a general merchandising business dealing not only with farmers but also with traders traveling through this region trading goods such as salt water fish or slaves brought overland from Africa or South America An early post office was established at what is now called Middlebrook about 1840er when Capt Wm Dickson took service with Postmaster Genl Thomas Jefferson . Thereabouts mail arrived daily en route eastward along US Highway 2 across Hickory Bend Creek which still flows through town today
Carrollton was founded in 1857 by James Carroll and his family. The town grew rapidly after it was made a city in 1865. In the 1920s, Carrollton became an important center for cotton production. It also became known for its nightlife and fashion scene.
