Carrollton is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 7,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Fulton County was formed in 1837 from parts of Carrollton and Druid Hillsborough counties. It became a county seat in 1851. The Alabama Purchase of 1853 provided land for the new town and it was named after General James K. Polk, who had served as Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of War during the American Civil War and president pro tempore of the Senate when that conflict ended. The first store in town was opened by Denton Witherspoon on October 15, 1830; Witherspoon's store continued to be the largest and most successful until it burned down on December 8, 1839. A post office called Carrollton was established in 1840, and remained in operation until 1860; it was then moved to Decaturville (now Alpharetta). In 1865, Carrollton incorporated as a city under a act approved by Govt. Andrew Johnson; it became an independent city again on November 3, 1975 when Fulton County merged into Metro Atlanta through an annexation ordinance passed by the state legislature. There are two colleges within walking distance of each other: Kennesaw State University (a public university) and USMajors College (a private college). There are also several small businesses located near each other including Walmart Supercenter and Home Depot Music Center which have made Carrolton one of its busiest areas for shopping since its incorporation into City government back in 1975

Carrollton is a city in Carroll County, Georgia, United States. The population was 15,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Carroll County. The town was founded by Captain John Carroll in 1795. In 1801, it was named for General James Wilkinson who fought at the Battle of Yorktown and later served as U.S. ambassador to Great Britain. The first post office in Carrollton opened on November 3, 1802. In 1825, the town became a part of Atlanta and was renamed after General Andrew Jackson's wife Tennessee (by then a separate municipality). In 1830, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased land in what is now Carrollton from the Cunningham family and built his plantation there. He became one of Atlanta's most prominent citizens and played an important role in its early development as a slave-based cotton plantation society with its own system of racial segregation that survives to this day. Forrest's plantation complex comprises over 100 contributing buildings that are open to public inspection today; including his home which has been preserved as a museum inside his property since it was constructed around 1840s all while still being used as living quarters for Forrest himself and his staff.Today much of what once comprised Forrest's plantations remains within walking distance or short drive-time away from downtown Atlanta providing visitors with an unparalleled opportunity for up close & personal interaction with some very uniqueartifacts from one of America’s most important historical periods!
