Today, Carrollton remains an agricultural center characterized by corn cribs and soybean fields stretching out before them on either side of Interstate 85; several churches (mostly Baptist) dot the landscape; and numerous small businesses operate within its limits. The town also retains some unique charms including its own school system (Carrollton Schools), shopping malls (including one called "The Outlet"), multiple golf courses, tennis Courts, country clubs and more than 20 parks which provide opportunities for recreation such as fishing or hiking/biking/swimming/running etc.. Located just outside of downtown Atlanta proper lies Stone Mountain Park - one of America's largest open-air amusement park complexes - which offers residents plenty to do whether they are looking for family fun or something more serious such as mountain biking or Archery lessons.

Carrollton was founded in 1821 by James Carroll and his wife, Nancy. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson, who had fought in the American Revolution. The Carrolts were a prominent family in Carrollton until their death in 1920. The first business in town was a store run by Mrs. Henson. In 1827, Carrollton became the home of the Georgia Seminary, which served as the college for education for rural Georgia. It is said that President George Washington attended one of the seminary lectures before leaving for Mount Vernon to expand America’s government. In 1830, Captain William Troup established a ferry service between Carrollton and Brunswick on the Tennessee River. This service allowed settlers and travelers from outside of Georgia to travel easily to various settlements in what is now north-central Alabama and Mississippi. Captain Troup also built a mill on the riverbank which functioned as a important source of income for the community until it closed its doors around 1900. In 1835, Mayor John Pritchard organized an election to select trustees for newly formed courthouse square where business meetings were held during later years until 1906 when they moved into present day City Hall building across from Schoolhouse Park Elementary School on Third Street NW. A new courthouse was erected at this location but it burned down in 1951 while under construction and never replaced; today only foundations remain testifying to its former status as one of Town Square’s most popular tourist attractions In 1840–41, three men – Alexander McNeely, John Greenleaf Whittier and Berry Lewis – emigrated from Ireland with their families and set out to found what would become Atlanta – then known as Cumming County (now Glynn County). They purchased land east of present-day Druid Hills Road near Roswell Creekoui and began construction on what would eventually become Gwinnett County . Mr . McNeely died soon after arrival while trying to establish himself as a farmer; his widow took over establishment of cottage society called “The McNeely Boys” which still exists today with branches throughout metro Atlanta
