The Canton Gun Case Company was founded in 1892 by the brothers Harry and Clarence Canton. The company made model pistols, revolvers, shotguns, and rifles. The company also produced a line of police surplus firearms. In 1934, the Canton Gun Case Company merged with the Hargrave Firearms Manufacturing Company to form the Hargrave-Canton Firearms Manufacturing Company.

Canton, Georgia is located in the U.S. state of Georgia on the Chattahoochee River. The city was founded in 1802 by a group of settlers led by Captain Anthony Walton and named after the canton of Switzerland, which then included much of what is now Georgia. In 1853, when the area became part of Alabama, the name was changed to Canton. The city's boundaries have changed many times over its history but it has always been located within Cobb County on the north side of metro Atlanta. The city proper covers an area of and had a population of 82,651 as of 2010 according to the US Census Bureau. It is situated on I-75 south near Cobb County Airport and east off Interstate 285 near DeKalb County Courthouse Plaza. Canton was founded by Captain Anthony Walton in 1802 as part of a land purchase from Major General John Norcross for $2,500 USD. Walton renamed his new settlement "Canton" in honor of Swiss canton Ticino (now Trento) which he said offered more fertile ground than any other location he explored while exploring southern Floyd County during his explorations in 1799-1800 with partner James Dunlap Jr.. For most of its early years, Canton functioned as a small frontier outpost until it became one of several towns established along what is now I-75 between Atlanta and Chattanooga due to booming cotton production along that stretch following cheap slave labor imported from Africa through transportation methods then unknown to America at that time The town grew rapidly due to increased demand for cotton goods produced by planters throughout Fulton County including those near Decatur who had also purchased large tracts adjacent to the Chattahoochee River Valley associated with Creek Nation leader Acock and others known as "the Five Towns". In order to prevent the barrels from getting dirty, these cases also had a series of openings at different angles in order to allow air circulation around the barrel.

Canton is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,567 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Fulton County and the state's third-largest city by population. Canton is also home to the University of Georgia and its campus in downtown. The first European settler in what is now Canton was John Snead who arrived there on March 8, 1824. He founded a log cabin and named it Sneadville after himself and his brother-in-law James Snead of Augusta, Georgia. The first school in Canton was built on the site of present day Merrill Elementary School in 1827 by local subscription. In 1829 William Welsh settled here with his family and opened Welsh's Store which became one of the most important commercial establishments in town until around 1860 when it closed down due to competition from more modern stores. In 1830 Isaiah Morse located a farm on what are now canton hills east of town along UGA Boulevard/SR 514; this area became known as Morse Field after him (the buildings still stand). Morse erected a small frame house on this farm which served as a store and home for many years until sold to Fannie Addams circa 1915 for use as her daughter Alma Hale's home from 1919 through 1955; she moved into it permanently upon her death three years later. A post office called Canton was established in 1837, but no mail ever reached it because there was no road available then nor did anyone want to send mail from such an isolated community surrounded by mountains! The first store building that stands today on US Highway 514 near where US Highway 31 meets SR 514 was built about 1840 by Elijah Hoggs & Co.; this structure served as both their store and residence until around 1865 when they sold it to Jno Battle & Son who ran Battle's Livery stable out front until 1978 when they demolished the building to build their current restaurant/ tavern combo building adjacent thereto; inside you will find remnants of both antebellum period woodwork AND 19th century carpeting! Accordingly, we can safely say that our lovely little village had its genesis back before even UGA existed!!! As mentioned earlier, during Reconstruction following the Civil War only men were allowed voting rights so John Witherspoon (brother of General Andrew Johnson) decided to open up shop here next door at Battle’s Livery stable starting business early February 1865 – just over one year prior to Alabama becoming part of America! In those days everything happened quickly back then – not much has changed since then…except for our changing demographics 🙂 ;) . After four weeks he had made $2000 dollars (!), so he started hiring people & buying equipment needed for his new business including whiskey distillation plants & warehouses! By mid march 1865 Witherspoon had run out of money but kept going with distribution because everyone wanted some Whiskey goodness LOL….. Canton was founded in 1785 by James Robertson and the town of Lumpkin was established in 1788. The name is derived from a Cherokee word, "kanton," meaning place of shelter. In 1801, the Georgia General Assembly renamed the town of Canton after George Washington.
