John Fenton also donated land (now the eastern edge of Druid Hills Park) adjacent to his college for use as a public park that remains today one ofAtlanta's most popular attractions despite some surface problems caused by heavy traffic demand over recent years including several feet (0.4 m) deep potholes that were filled only after repeated protests by citizens groups led by then Mayor Kasim Reed . As late as 1960s there were few homes or businesses located within walking distance either east or west off US-501 east of town limits while access to Interstate 285/I-75 was very limited north & south making this an ideal location for business people who did not need interstate travel but instead could rely upon local services such as telephone service which continued uninterrupted during those years; schools like Chattahoochee Valley Academy continue providing quality education without either 1 mile (1 km) long freeways connecting their campuses directly with Interstate 285/I-75
