In Buford, Georgia, there have been guns in the area for over a hundred years. The first gun to be used in this region was an English Snider rifle. This rifle was designed by George Washington and made in 1795. It consisted of a stock with a pistol grip, which allowed the shooter to hold the weapon vertically with their hands behind their back. For many years, guns were strictly regulated and only issued to men who could afford them. However, this began to change in the early 1800s when arms dealers began offering pistols and rifles to civilians. As more people became interested in firearms, they started buying these new weapons from dealers. This led to gun battles between the military and civilian populations that took place throughout the 1800s. One of the most famous gunfights occurred on July 3rd, 1857 when General Nathan Bedford Forrest fired upon Confederate forces at Bentonville Fortress during the Battle of Fort Pillow. This battle resulted in six Union soldiers being killed and thirteen wounded before Forrest's cavalry arrived reinforcements that drove off the attacking Confederate force. The battle is also known as "The Gunfight at Fort Pillow." Throughout much of its history, firearms were used for hunting and target practice rather than for combat purposes. However, due to their importance within society (and occasional use in combat), firearms have come into contact with people from all walks of life throughout history. In Buford, this has included Native Americans who lived near by; soldiers who fought alongside both sides during wars; criminals who used firearms against each other; and even police officers who responded to various crimes using handguns

He eventually became involved with politics and took an interest in local affairs. In 1892, he served as mayor of Buford and two years later was elected to the Georgia state legislature. He also began serving as secretary to Governor James Buchanan.Buford's political career ended when he was impeached for bribery in 1896. However, he continued to serve as a congressman until 1901 when he resigned due to ill health.Buford died at age 90 in 1915 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery
Buford was founded in 1836 by John Buford and his wife, Evalyn. The town is named after General James Buford, who fought in the American Civil War. After the war, Buford became a center for cotton production. In the 1920s, Buford became the home of Georgia's first public library.
