Buford is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 23,887 at the 2010 census. Buford is the county seat of Fulton County and the main location for most governmental services within the city limits. Buford was first settled by people of European descent in 1785 as a small town on the Chattahoochee River near what is today downtown Buford. A post office was established in 1827, and by 1830, Buford had become a full-fledged town. During its early years, Buford's economy relied largely on agriculture and trade with nearby Alabama and Tennessee. However, during the late 19th century, new industries began to develop in Buford – including brick manufacturing and meatpacking – which eventually led to its growth as an urban center. In 1970, then-Mayor John Darnell announced plans to move the county courthouse from downtown to a new building on High Street that would have allowed for more vehicle traffic through the city center and increased job opportunities for local residents. The project was approved by voters two years later and construction began in 1974. The first courthouse opened in 1976; since then, it has been one of Bufords largest accomplishments as an urban center. In 2011–12, $10 million was spent to update or replace all infrastructure within City Hall including streetlights, water systems, leaks discovered inside building over past few years etc., resulting into much better visibility inside City Hall during day & night time

Buford is located on the Savannah River and is surrounded by Macon County to the east, Chatham County to the north, and Marengo County to the west. In1936 it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 712. The first white person to live in Buford was John Pemberton in 1824. He built a cabin on Soddy Creek near present day Soddy Bridge. Pemberton's Cabin has been preserved as part of Buford history museum since 1978. United States Senator Robert A. Taft also resided here from 1922 until his death in 1936; he had been elected governor two years earlier and served terms from 1921 until 1929. In 1906, Buford awarded its first high school diploma program which led to increase enrollment of schools within Bibb County through state legislation passed that year allowing for such programs statewide Buford High School opened its doors in 1926 and currently offers classes leading up to graduation level including business administration, criminal justice/law enforcement, education/licensing, engineering/the sciences, health science/health care administration & management (including pre-medicine), home economics/household management (including child development), marketing & advertising/, natural resources/environmental studies/, political science&governmentripture/, social work/. Actively engaged students organized into student government options like senate president & vice president and directors for recreation director&communications director&event planner etc., during early 1960s when college students vacated downtown areas around campus due to increasing number of homes being constructed there since then developed subdivision called "Old Main" across river from campus now known as subdivisions "Fayetteville", "Marietta", "Roswell" etc., following integration of public schools district into Gwinnett county system in 1970s . Some alumni have gone on to become notable people such as Ulysses S Grant Woodruff who was an assistant secretary at Treasury under Presidents Franklin D Roosevelt & Harry Truman; Edwin Hargrave who served as majority whip under Speaker Sam Rayburn; Vernon Walters who was Mayor of Atlanta from 1971-1975; Phil Knight Chairman emeritus Knight Ridder Newspapers Inc.; Draymond Green University basketball coach

Buford is a small town in southwest Georgia, United States. The population was 7,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and is the county seat of Fulton County. The town was founded by pioneers in 1811 as a post office called Buford Station on the Chattahoochee River. The name was changed to Buford in 1815 when landowner Jameson Buford donated 5 acres (20,000 m2) of land to the new town for its first school. In 1826, Buford became a part of newly formed Hawkins County and was renamed after General James Hennigan, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and been appointed Governor of Mexico City by President Andrew Jackson. In 1851, construction began on what would become Fulton County Courthouse; it opened in March 1852 and served as the county seat until 1889 when Augusta became the county seat. In 1928, subdivisions were created within Buford Township which resulted in two new townships – Trustee Heights and Parkview – being formed within it; these Towns were later consolidated into one municipality under their current name: Buford Township.
