Buford, Georgia is a small town located in the eastern part of the US state of Georgia. It is part of the Buford-Tocantins County seat. The population was 8,693 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit what is now Buford was a white man named James Fayette in 1815. He travelled from Tennessee and reported on the natural resources and friendly natives he encountered while exploring what would become Buford County. In 1823, General Andrew Jackson appointed Colonel John Milledge as Surveyor for this area and began developing this land into what is today known as Buford County. In 1828, Colonel Milledge sold 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of this original lands to Jesse Grimes for $1 per acre ($10 per km²). This land eventually became known as “the Grimes tract” because it was purchased by Jesse Grimes’ father-in-law David Griggs in 1833. From here on out, development continued primarily through purchase or donation by successive generations of local farmers until it reached its current form today with much of it still owned by family members or individuals who have resided in the community since its early days. Throughout the years there have been several significant events that have shaped Buford culture and history: In 1898 an influx of immigrants called “The Ghetto Kids” started living in various parts of Atlanta after being forcibly removed from their homes in Hungary during World War I. They brought with them their own unique cultural influences and contributed significantly to shaping aspects such as music, art, fashion and food styles that continue to be popular to this day throughout Atlantans across all socio-economic levels. Buford has also seen active military service over time with two wars fought within its city limits: World War II and The Civil Rights Movement which took place nearby in Atlanta proper between 1965-1968. In both instances active duty troops were stationed here including elements from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune which helped contribute to helping create some infrastructure needed for both deployments - like more than 50 miles (80 kilometers) of paved road originally built specifically for parking Marines at Lejeune AFB when they left for Japan during The Second World War! Today many students find themselves drawn to studying warfare or military history while working at various local museums or sites relating thereto – making Buford one very active community indeed!
