During Reconstruction Cobb County was created from parts of Fulton County which were still under military occupation following Reconstruction's end with passage of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution abolishing slavery within 25 years. On January 1, 1895 Brunswick became a municipality within Cobb County through an act of Congress effective February 1st due to its growth as one of Atlanta's larger streetcar suburbs since rail service could not reach it until after 1886 when it was connected by way of a branch line from downtown Atlanta to Anson Road west of town. In 1907 Brunswick developed into one ofAtlanta's most significant commercial districts with many large department stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Montgomery Ward & Co., J C Penney & Sons Inc., Wrigley’sCoated Glass Company and many smaller businesses like Denny’s Department Store etc..
