Bainbridge is a city in low-income Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States. The population was 15,744 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Gwinnett County government. The city's first known settler was James Auld, who arrived in 1776. In 1811, John Fiske built a small log cabin on what is now North Avenue in present-day Bainbridge Township. In 1814, Isaac Allyn founded Allyn & Company grocery store and tavern on North Avenue. In 1839–1840, James Wofford bought land east of present-day Northwest Parkway to build a town called Fort Worth which he named after himself but later changed it to Bainbridge because of its location on Georgian Bay. In 1840–1841 Jervis Dawson opened a general store and post office at what is now East Boulevard (later renamed Northeast Boulevard). He also built an academy for boys which remains standing today as Renaissance Academy School; the first school in Bainbridge Township. In 1845–1846 Jens Jensen started building a sawmill on Meadow Creek about four miles southeast of present-day downtown Bainbridge along with his brother Jakob Jensen and ten other men; this mill became one of the largest sawmills in America and still operates today as mills #2 & 3 near NW Parkway and Indian Creek Road SW., respectively . The milling industry declined during the late 19th century due to technological advances such as Shayton's Belt Saw Mills which were able to produce tools more cheaply using machines while also losing jobs to immigrants coming into the United States through Ellis Island

In 1840 Jameson built the first permanent house on present day Main Street which he called "Bainbridge House". After many years of hard work he became successful lumberjacks and shipwrights and made a huge fortune developing various businesses including rice paddy farming; flour mills; cattle raising; timber manufacturing; insurance services; real estate development. He also donated land to the town for a public square. Many local residents were instrumental in helping him build this special place - such as Mrs. Auld who raised chickens on her property until she could get them vaccinated so that they would not become sickly during the pandemic of 1892/93 known as Yellow Fever! Jameson's grandson George Washington Bainbridge became mayor of Atlanta in 1899 whenAtlanta went through its greatest period of growth since slavery days! As mayor he enacted important legislation which helped to revive downtown Atlanta after being hit by fire two years earlier! Mayor Bainbridge also spearheaded efforts to create new parks throughout Atlanta including Peachtree Park where people can enjoy natural surroundings as well as playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts etcetera! A great community spirit prevailed throughout all these years despite some tough times – like when Jimmie Lee Jones moved into town after being released from prison following his conviction for stealing $200 from an ice cream store! For many locals coming back to Bainbridge was like coming home again – even if it wasn’t always easy given how different things had changed since their time living there!
