One of the first guns to be made in Bainbridge was a shotgun known as the “Bainbridge Rifle.” This weapon was designed by local man, J.T. Bainbridge, and was manufactured by his father at their home on the banks of the Savannah River. The gun was used for hunting and target shooting until it was replaced by the more accurate rifle in 1901. In 1892, George Wheeler became owner of agun shop located across from the old post office on Main Street. In 1904, he opened his own gun dealership and named it Wheeler & Sons Firearms Company Limited after himself and his two brothers-in-law, Samuel Wheeler and John Wulfeldt. The company produced handguns as well as shotguns and rifles for both personal use and sale to other businesses and individuals throughout southern Georgia. In 1949, one of Bainbridge’s leading citizens, Drayton Garland donated land at Cedar Grove Shopping Center off Telegraph Road for a new police station which would serve the community well for many years to come! The donation allowed officers from neighboring communities – such as Johns Creek – to share resources with Bainbridge law enforcement when needed while also providing extra parking space for officers during busy hours! Bainbridge is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 967 at the 2010 census. Bainbridge has been inhabited by people of European descent since 1785. The first permanent settler in what is now Bainbridge was John Bainbridge, who arrived in 1785 and built a log cabin on the bluff overlooking the Town Creek. In 1805, John's son James Bainbridge also came to Bainbridge and built a house on what is now Main Street. By 1825, there were six different families living in Bainbridge: John, James, Martha (Wyatt), David (Carta), Samuel (Ferguson) and Ebenezer Eaton. In 1828James' son George Washington Bainbridge came to live with his parents and siblings in what is now our downtown area of Bainbridge. When he married Patience McCoy he moved from Milledgeville to establish himself permanently in this new community postmarked February 3rd 1830. The town of Bainbridge was laid out by Colonel John Crain as part of an effort to provide for settlers near the newly created road between Atlanta and Chattanooga which would soon become a main artery for commerce within both states. Colonel Crain named his plat after General Andrew Jackson who had taken over command of the Union army during the American Civil War and helped liberate many slaves while commanding significant numbers of troops at Chickamauga Ridge outside Dalton, Georgia on September 15th 1863 – one day after Confederate General Robert Ewell's ill-fated offensive that failed to gain any ground against Union forces under General Ulysses S Grant throughout much of northern Alabama including Athens County where Brasstown is located today In 1836 Captain Job Beall gave notice that he would be selling land on Ferry Road running parallel to present day Main Street for $1 per acre payable when purchased). This led to what is now known as Beall Heights being developed as early as 1840 with several large homes constructed around Ferry Road/Beall Avenue including Humble Hall which still stands today and served as the local courthouse until it burned down circa 1870s while also serving as an important military depot transporting supplies upriver during times of war or floods such as caused by flash flooding along river courses like those that occurred twice a year at this location during the late 1800’s through early 1900’s leading to several major bridges being rebuilt including one over Spring Creek which remain extant today across from current day Beallsville Elementary School . Today many relics Remain from these earlier days such as property lines back then followed straight down Ferry Rd/Beall Ave with no intervening streets or driveways – something not seen anymore anywhere else in Fulton County other than some scattered farmsteads & residences dating back 100 years or more . It should be noted that much controversy exists about whether Beall Heights actually constituted part of present day Bainbridge although most historians believe it did . What are indisputable however are photos & oral histories preserved by various individuals who have lived here continuously over time documenting how things were originally done hereabouts especially around Ferry Rd/Beall Ave According To “A History Of The Town Of Bainbridge" written by Mrs Eliza Auld published approximately 1952 [it seems this information may have been updated since then], “In 1840 Capt Job Beal advertised land east side Ferry road just south o old Mill Dam site doing $1 per acre payable when sold so lots went fast especially because lots were only 6 acres but due East side Mill dam site they increased size say 30 acres bought lot 4 November 1840 corner Ferry road & milldam site ."virtually all residents except Ebenezer Eaton live on Bridge street runs east-west bisecting present day town limits
