By 1870 there were over 100 white businesses in Augusta with a population of 10,000 people; blacks made up just 2 percent of the total population then and still make up less than 5 percent today. During Reconstruction Augusta became known as "the most racist city in America." White violence against black citizens increased until 1890 when Atlanta closed its borders to all whites for fear they would take over townspeople's businesses. A white mob burned down cars dealership across town on Christmas day 1895 while children were inside playing Hide & Seek; three Negroes were killed as a result In 1898 African Americans formed a local militia group called "The Midnight Riders" to resist integration efforts by federal agents working under Attorney General Newton Baker during Reconstruction EraAlabama Governor Robert E Price ordered all black churches throughout the state closed on December 15th 1998 because compliance with Ulysses S Grant's anti-lynching proclamation would have ended any hope of Afrikans achieving equality within their own country through political power

Augusta, Georgia is a small town in the state of Georgia. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Augusta is located in Fulton County. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Augusta's history can be traced back to 1817 when a group of Englishmen founded what would become Augusta, GA on a tract of land that they had purchased from the Cherokee Nation. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson arrived in Savannah and made his way to Augusta where he met with the Englishman who had founded it and agreed to give him 4,000 acres (16 km2) for an agricultural community if he could help win General Jackson's battle against Native Americans near Mobile Bay. In 1822, General Jackson placed Augusta under military control as part of his plan called "The Hundred Days." This initiative aimed to improve transportation by improving roads and bridges across Mobile Bay so goods could be transported more easily from one side of the bay to the other. In 1830, General John Cushing relieved General Jackson of command at Mobile Bay and moved all American forces out of Alabama into Georgia which caused much commotion in Augusta because until then it had been part of Alabama. On January 3rd 1830, General Cushing erected a large flagpole in front of City Hall in downtown Augusta which served as a symbol for general rule throughout America during this time period that no officer or soldier could hold property outside their own precinct or county within their own state or country without express consent from both home government and foreign government During Reconstruction following America's Civil War (1861-1865), many African Americans began moving into central Georgia including those living around Smyrna which led to growing race tensions between white people and black people living together peacefully until 1865 when cotton fields were opened up again and some races started working together while others continued to live separately but still considered themselves separate races

Augusta grew rapidly from its founding until the American Revolution, when it fell to Revolutionary forces. In 1804, it became a city under the terms of the Treaty of New York.
