The Atlanta Shooting and Safety Museum (ASSM) is a nonprofit museum that preserves the history of firearms, safety and shooting in Atlanta, Georgia. The ASSM was founded in 1984 by NRA member Rick Hahn. The ASSM is located at 1201 Peachtree Street NW in the heart of the city’s arts district. The ASSM collection features handguns, shotguns, rifles and ammunition from throughout Atlanta’s history. The museum also has a library with over 100 books on firearms and safety. In addition to exhibits on gun regulation and history, the ASM also offers classes for children, adults and families. Atlantans have generally characterized their history since World War II as one marked by growth and progressivism—in business, government and social issues—rather than racial hatred or segregationism.
Atlanta was founded on May 1, 1795 by the founders of the United States. The city was named in honor of General James Robertson, who led an army against Spanish forces in the Battle of Havidah in 1781.
