As early as 1802, traders fromGeorgia had begun traveling through what is now Atlantica searching for rich deposits of silver and gold ores. By 1820 , William Bartram had built his first cabin in what is now Midtown on Peachtree Road just east of present-day downtown Atlanta while serving as governor of Georgia under president James Kentsyon (1819). The first post office at Chattahoochee River wasn’t established until 1827 due to lack of space at then-Marietta Post Office; however, local citizens offered to build a building they could use themselves if they received stamps from Ulysses S Grant to prove their citizenship status among other things In 1861, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), Chattanooga lawyer John Pemberton decided to move his offices from southside Chattanooga to northside Atlanta so he could better represent Unionists against Confederate sympathizers . He leased two lots near Five Points Park where Marietta Avenue meets Constitution Boulevard; Pemberton called his spot “The Square Mile” because it occupied an entire square mile (0 6 km2) within DowntownAtlanta – making it one block longer than any other square block in town save One Hundred Acre Prairie which formed much later around same area bounded by Vine Street NW., First Street NE., Seventh Street SE., Woodward Avenue SW., Ponce de Leon Avenue NW., Hollywood Cemetery SW., Druid Hills Cemetery NW.). With increased activity around downtown following secession from Tennessee following Abraham Baldwin’s uprising there were more buildings needed soon so Mayor John Wesley Smith leased two more blocks northeast corner Fourteenth Street/Interstate 25th Freeway near campus before construction started beginning December 1st 1865 continuing into late January 1966 when final touches were made including electric lights . Groundbreaking ceremonies occurred October 12th 1865 when President Johnson attended ; about 400 people participated most coming from nearby counties surrounding Cobb County like Alpharetta /Marietta /Roswell etc….. This marked formal opening day & inauguration ceremony New National Capital ……. A feeling grew throughout town everyone wanted access….. At last something like order was restored
