Targets continued being used intermittently until they were finally eliminated entirely due to heavy fire usage by the Athens police force during World War II (see below). In 1944 an agreement was reached between Athens Municipal Police Department and Bendix Corporation whereby all future indoor firing must take place outdoors on government property currently occupied by the National Defense Headquarters building (NDHQ). This new rule effectively ended indoor firing within city limits. After World War II ended Target Shooting began again within city limits but only with privately owned ranges as public shootings resumed after 1945 without any further agreements between city authorities and private enterprise (see below).
