As Athens, Georgia native and current student at the University of Georgia, I am excited to explore this city and its rich history. Athens is located in central Georgia on the Savannah River, making it one of the most flood-prone areas in the state. The city was founded by Acacius in 300 BC as a small village on the east bank of the river. By 350 BC, Athens had become an important commercial center due to its location on a key trade route between Asia Minor and Italy. In 146 BC, when Rome acquired control over Greece from Persia, Athens became their new capital. The city experienced great prodigies during its Golden Age under Roman rule: King Herodotus wrote about how wealthy Greeks living near the river could buy everything from gold jewelry to slaves. During his reign (219–235), Athenians built a grandiose stadium called Marathon which remains one of the largest such structures in Europe today. After centuries of decline and military invasions by both Persia and Byzantium (Byzantine Empire), Athens emerged as a leading cultural center in modern times thanks to its art scene, film industry, and Alexander High School (now George Mason University). Despite some setbacks—such as riots following World War II—the city has continue to make significant progress since my visit last year. With increased development around downtown Athenian neighborhoods like Plaka and Xanthos – two UNESCO World Heritage Sites – much work remains to be done for this once struggling but vibrantcityscape.

The first bipedal animals were dinosaurs, which had four limbs that could be used for walking and running. However, since then, bipedalism has been found in a variety of different creatures including horses, cats, camels, gorillas and even some snakes. There are a few reasons why bipedalism is so unique. First of all, when you walk or run on two Legs you lose energy because your muscles have to work harder to move each individual foot instead of working together as one unit. Second of all, when you walk or run on two Legs you are more efficient because your body can use less energy to do the same job as if it were done with three legs. Thirdly, bipedalism allows us to better explore our environment because we can move more quickly and cover more ground than we would if we had to use four limbs alone. Lastly, bipedalism also allows us to better communicate with others due to the fact that we can use both hands instead of just one hand during conversation

Athens, Georgia is the capital of the United States state of Georgia. Athens is also the largest city in Muscogee County and one of its most populous cities. The city was founded on April 14, 1802 by Capt. John Brown and his men as a trading post on the Chattahoochee River, becoming an American port town with a strong cotton industry. By 1820, Athens had become a major transportation center for goods heading to the textile mills in Mobile and Jacksonville. In 1830, Athens became the first U.S. city to be incorporated as a municipality. The city's growth was slowed by two World Wars (1914-18) and the Great Depression (1929-33). However, since the 1990s Athens has seen significant gentrification and development around its downtown area, including new high-end housing developments such as Park Place Gardens and Park Place Tower Center.
In 1795, the city of Athens was founded by Captain James Cook and his men as a penal colony. The area now known as Athens was originally part of the Cherokee Nation. After the American Revolution, Athens became a part of Georgia and in 1801, it became the capital of the new state. In 1868, Athens became an independent republic and in 1974, it attained full independence from Georgia.
