During World War II many industries such as sheet metal manufacturing and shipbuilding took place onshore at Ship Canal Yards 2 & 3 which produced over 1 million pieces of naval equipment including warships carriers USS Constitution (CV-4) & USS Enterprise (CV-6). The yards closed in 1961 after years of production due to competition from Japan but their products still grace many navy ships today. Albemarle Road crosses downtown off I-285 southbound about midway between US-1A/Georgia State Route 408E & I-85 Business towards Roswell; then turns east onto GA 452N towards First National Bank before turning southeast onto GA 131W towards Moody Gardens; then turn west onto Old Goodyear Highway just past where it meets GA 46 (Old Goodyear Highway/US-441 intersection), run concurrent with GA 131W until reaching its southern terminus at US 12 near Ponce de Leon Avenue

In 1865, Alpharetta became part of Georgia statehood and continued to grow at an alarming rate; by 1870 it had reached 6,000 residents. Over time, however, Alpharetta's growth slowed considerably and eventually stopped altogether in the early 20th century. As result of its stalled growth and limited resources, Alpharetta gradually lost much of its former significance within Georgian culture.
