Alpharetta, Georgia is a city located in Fulton County, Georgia. Alpharetta has a population of over 145,000 people and it is the largest city in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1837 by cotton planters as a plantation town on the Chattahoochee River. In 1849, Alpharetta became an incorporated municipality and in 1876 it became a county seat. In 1964, Alpharetta was annexed by Atlanta and its residents were given voting rights. The City of Atlanta annexed Alphareta on December 1, 2014. A few months later on October 5th plenary meeting held at Municipal Hall following public hearings commissioners Frank Sizemore (Chairman), Cesar Chavez (Vice Chairman) & Dragan Djordjevic reported back with findings from trail work begun during earlier months…the result being establishment/establishment/maintenance/operational management Authority for Trails Department was granted effective November 1st 1956 upon recommendation from newly elected mayor John Herron!
