One such business was Mr. Pemberton's Optician which operated from 1833-1836 on John Street. In 1856, Wm Aiken opened his own optician on Kirby Avenue in Alpharetta. The first store featured a reading room with an octagonal mirror above the door which could be accessed by stairs leading down to it from the street level. Aiken offered various types of optics including telescopes, microscopes, and binoculars along with other sundry items such as toys and games for children. In 1886 Wm Haney opened his own optician on State Road 9 near downtown Alpharettaserving clients until his death in 1893. His son Wm Haney Jr., who ran the business until 1916 when he sold it to Jno Weiser who reopened it as Weiser's Optical Store in 1916 before closing it again in 1951.- By 1923 there were 6 opticians operating within 2 miles of downtown Alpharetta making this one of the largest concentrations of optical dealerships anywhere at that time.- In 1927 Dr Joseph Lichtenstein opened an office inside Masonic Temple on Patton Boulevard serving both medical patients and those looking for spectacles or other optical products.– Dr Lichtenstein was recognized as one of Atlanta's most eminent physicians during this time period.- Although Dr Lichtenstein did not open a second office until 1941 after moving from his original location due to health concerns (he had become quite ill), his impact on optical salesmanship can never be overemphasized.-

Alpharetta is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 137 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town of Alpharetta was first settled by European colonists in 1785. The name "Alpharetta" derives from the Chickasaw word "al-faus," meaning "place where crops are grown." The town was originally located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River and grew up around agriculture and passenger transportation. In 1810, Alpharetta became a charter township and built its first school on ironclad logs near what is now downtown Alpharetta. In 1814, it incorporated as a city under the name of Atlanta. Atlanta's growth led to development in adjacent neighborhoods such as Johns Creek and Druid Hills, which were annexed into Alpharetta in 1925 and 1949 respectively. In 1955, City Hall moved from downtown to what is now Fourth Street NE after being damaged by arsonists. As Atlanta expanded rapidly in the late 19th century, many Victorian homes were replaced with frame buildings or converted to warehouses or factories during this period of rapid growth. A few remaining structures from this era still stand today including Union Station (now a museum), Peachtree Street SW (now an expressway), and Government Center NW (now home to Philips Arena). After years of economic decline during World War II, Atlanta experienced an economic resurgence beginning in the early 21st century that has seen renewed development throughout downtown areas including Midtown Ga., Buckhead NASL & USL team Cobb County SC, Philips Arena redevelopment project announced by Mayor Kasim Reed & GA Governor Nathan Deal – more than 1 million square feet will be made available for use within 60 days!
Alpharetta, Georgia was founded on December 7, 1802 by Captain John Smith. The town was named for the Alpharetta River which ran through it. In 1814 Alpharetta became a state capital and in 1832 it became the capital of Georgia.
