Alpharetta is a small city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 18,704 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. Alpharetta began as a small settlement on the Chattahoochee River and was named for General James A. Alpharetta, who led Confederate troops during the American Civil War. The city was founded in 1822 by John Harris and his family as a trading post on the Chattahoochee River between Atlanta and Decatur. In 1825, Alpharetta became the capital of what would become Fulton County. By 1830, it had an estimated population of 1,500 people; by 1840 it had 5,000 residents and 10 stores. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources: coal mining and timber harvesting allowed for large-scale construction throughout the late 19th century downtown area; businesses attracted immigrants from southern Europe (particularly Italians) during this time period; construction of new roads increased traffic demand; and industry developed around transportation needs such as canalizing watercourses and providing access to markets in northern Georgia

One such weapon was the Churchill III Gunpowder Bomb, which was able to penetrate up to 200 miles per square inch (627 degrees Fahrenheit) without causing any damage! It is interesting to note that even today’s ordnance can still cause significant damage if used incorrectly.

The area's economic growth led to its incorporation as a municipality in 1887. In 1924, Alpharetta was renamed for General Douglas MacArthur, who helped drive Japan from power during World War II. Since then, it has been an important hub for education and business in Georgia.
