It lies on the east side of Tampa Bay and is bordered by the municipalities of Dunedin to the north, Clearwater to the south, and St. Petersburg to the west. Zephyrhills began as a small farming community in 1892 and quickly became known for its soft gun cases made from natural materials such as horseshair and cotton. From 1906 until 1964, Zephyrhills was home to one of America's leading firearms manufacturers - Smith & Wesson - which produced revolvers (including models 686/686T), pistols (including model 9mm), revolvers with compensators (such as Model 870/890U), shotguns (model 12 Gauge) and rifle action rifles (such as Model 760). In 1984 Smith & Wesson retired from production of handguns in Zephyrhills; however, their legacy live on through their manufacturing division – S&WAmerica – which manufactures both pistols and rifles under license from Smith & Wesson.Today, Zephyrhills remains a vibrant community with an active firearms industry that produces both antique guns and new products for sale online and in store. The Zephyrhills community began as a development near Gulf Stream Boulevard and Military Trail in 1951. In 1962, the name of the town was changed to Zephyrhills after its developer, J.B. Stroud, donated 100 acres (40 hectares) of land to help develop an agricultural community on the outskirts of Fort Lauderdale with a shopping center and other amenities for residents and visitors. The first homes were built on this land in 1963. In 1990, Zephyrhills became an official city when it annexed unincorporated areas east of I-95 which had been part of Miramar since 1959 but without city rights or services. The annexation fulfilled a decades-long dream by Mayor Dave Heineman to make Zephyrhills an urban center with access to all types of municipal services that Miramar could not provide because it was rural until then. Zephyrhills has seen growth over time as people have come to enjoy its great location and convenient gas stations, malls, restaurants and schools just minutes away from home - making it one of South Florida's most popular communities for vacationers and professionals alike!

Zephyrhills, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population of Zephyrhills was 1,521 at the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1892 by John W. Couch and his son, Edward Couch. It is named after the zephyrs that visit the area on October 10th each year. Zephyrhills first attracted settlers because of its fertile land and natural resources such as waterholes and springs. In 1900, a sawmill and grist mill were built in Zephyrhills by John Couch Sr. The Cushies continued to operate these businesses until their death in 1938. Their son, Edward Couch Jr., took over ownership of both businesses until his death in 1951. After Edward Couch Jr.'s death, his brother-in-law, Harry Bigham bought the mills from him and operated them for several years before selling them to Representative Carl Stokes in 1958. The townsite designation for Zephyrhills originated with Harry Bigham who designated it as such on March 20th, 1928 due to its resemblance to Jacksonville Beach (then known as "Bainbridge"). At that time, there were only a few homes and businesses in Zephyrhills which had been constructed since its founding. By 1960, however, Zephyrhills had become an important community with over 100 residents living within its limits

Zephyrhills was founded in 1892 by Methodists and Baptists as a small farming community on the east side of Hillsborough Bayou. It became an industrial center after the opening of the Tampa Shipbuilding Company's shipyard in 1912. The shipyards closed in 1960 and much of what is now Zephyrhills was developed as part of Hillsborough Township.
