That same year he married Anna Maria Weatherly who was also born at Portsmouth, Rensselaer County, New York but completed her education at Williamsburg Female College then moved back east to join her husband after service as an ensign with militia forces during the Revolution against George Washington’s Army on Long Island fighting under British general Sir Henry Clinton as part of Admiral John Andre’s squadron escort off Staten Island . AnnaMaria joined her husband two months after their arrival when he secured passage with his unit via Newport News Ferry for Pensacola Bay where they disembarked 10 October 1795 en route to attend convention held at Nassau County Courthouse about organizing United States territorial government under Articles of Confederation which were ratified eleven days later at West Point on 11 November1795 resulting in creation of Territorial Congress providing ultimate authority over all aspects political governance within Union though not limited military action .
