The town grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its position as a transportation and manufacturing center for citrus products. In 1919, Winter Springs became an incorporated municipality. The population of Winter Springs peaked at over 100,000 in the mid-1930s but has since declined modestly. Today, the community functions primarily as a bedroom community for retirees from nearby Orlando and Tallahassee. Winter Springs is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers arrived in what is now Winter Springs around 1892. A post office called Winter Springs was established in 1896, and remained in operation until 1959. The town name originated with the winter season, when people would come to stay during the freezes that year. The first store opened in 1901, and by 1907 there were three stores and a telephone system. In 1912 a cotton gin was built on Main Street. In 1915 an ice cream parlor was built on Main Street and serves as today's Winter Springs Ice Cream Parlor which also has a restaurant serving breakfast from 7am to 10am daily as well as lunch from 11:30am to 2pm and dinner nightly from 5pm to 11pm; it also has its own bar/lounge nightspot open late for all visitors known as "The Foyer". The town grid was developed in 1916 with streets named after trees or plants found along their route (such as Oak Avenue). Christmas tree shopping began here in 1936 with Mrs Claus coming down State Road 1 every morning from her home upState Road 434E looking for fresh produce to bring back into her house for gift-giving that day; this event still happens annually today! In 1957 the Census reported that there were only 1,083 residents living in Winter Springs; however by 2000 this had increased to 2,567 making it one of Palm Beach County's fastest growing communities! Many new businesses have opened throughout the years such as Clinique Salon & Spa located off of University Boulevard near Serenity Golf Course - providing over $75 million worth of services yearly! This revitalization has brought many jobs within easy reach for many residents who are not content living just 150 feet from Publix Supermarket where they can buy groceries without leaving their homes!

Despite this history, however, Winter Springs has experienced significant changes over time including gentrification that has resulted in increased crime rates and displacement of low-income residents
Winter Springs was founded in 1876 by a group of New Englanders who abandoned their farmstead on the banks of the St. Johns River. The town acquired its current name from Winter being the capital of Florida at that time. In 1902, Winter Springs became an incorporated municipality and in 1954, it became a city.
