Winter Springs, Florida is a town located in Polk County, Florida. It was founded by George Washington Morris in 1868. The current town hall and courthouse were built in 1888. The Winter Springs Rifle Club was formed in 1896. The first indoor rifle range was built in 1903. In 1911, the first outdoor rifle range opened at Morristown Park. In 1927, the first pistol range opened at Winter Springs Aquarium. From 1926 to 1951, the Winter Springs Pistol Club held its annual meeting at the old Western Union Building on North Main Street. In 1951, it moved to the new Civic Center on East Orange Avenue. As of 2019, there are no active rifle ranges within town limits; however, there are several defunct ones that have been preserved as historical landmarks.

Winter Springs is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 19,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Winter Springs was originally called "New Smyrna" and was founded in 1868 by Isabella Webb as a summer resort on Long Key island. In 1904, Winter Springs became an incorporated town and was renamed after President James K. Polk. The first permanent settler in what would become Winter Springs arrived in 1868 when Isabella Webb (née Cooper) moved from Georgia with her family to purchase land east of Tampa on Long Key island for $100 per acre ($4,500 today). Webb named her new home New Smyrna because of its similarity to the town of Smyrna,Georgia she had visited while traveling through that state earlier that year. She leased out rooms in her home to other settlers until a schoolhouse could be built and then hired teacher Anna Hutton to teach the children there until annexation by Tampa occurred in 1904. By 1907 winter weather had made travel unsafe so Webb left New Smyrna for good and returned home to Georgia where she died six years later at age 81. In 1914 Winter Springs achieved city status when it annexed neighboring Pinellas County which included most of what is now Spring Valley. At this time Springvale's population totaled about 400 people with no more than 30 homes; however within five years that number hadgrown to 1,000 residents with 100 homes! During World War II many businesses closed due to lack of demand but many others were able to keep going thanks to patriotism and support from local citizens who offered their help out during wartime shortages such as cooking supplies or gasoline storage tanks! After the war ended many businesses reopened thanks especially those relatedto agriculture like grocery stores or hardware stores which continued throughout the 1970s thru 1990s!! Today there are only 2 small businesses remaining downtown which are gas stations & convenience stores!!!

The history of Winter Springs goes back to 1887 when a group of men from Stonington hooked up with local farmers and began farming oranges hereabouts. From these beginnings grew what is now one of America's most successful citrus towns - home to some sixty fruit growers who produced over 20 million pounds (9 tonnes) of oranges annually between 1922-1960. Today's economy revolves around health care services, professional services and retail sales; as well as tourism which has steadily become more important in this economically vibrant community since its incorporation into the city limits in 1966! Thanks to some heroic leadership by Mayor Don Freeman and City Manager Rick Sikes III during their time as leaders – including passage of Amendment 1 through referendum in 2002 which added fifteen acres (60 hectares) to the citylimits –Winter Springs has seen significant growth both politically and economically over the years; making it one today where progressivism reigns supreme!
