This led to an increased demand for eye protection among combatants due to potential injuries received from shrapnel, grenades, bullets, bayonets and even knives being fired at close range. Sniper rifles were especially vulnerable because they are slow-loading firearms that allow for a greater chance of hitting your target than handguns or shotguns which are firing rounds per minute (RPM).
