During World War II, much of the manufacturing that took place in winter quarters (such as aircraft parts) was done at nearby Plantation Boulevard plant which helped contribute to the war effort; however, much of this activity ceased once hostilities ended. In recent years, winter recreation has become an important part of life for residents of Winter Springs; both locals and visitors alike enjoy sledding down Main Street or spending hours outside playing snowball fights on Front Street! One such attraction that draws people from all over Florida are the exhibits at Gulf Coast Museum – showcasing local culture and history from start to finish!
Winter Springs was founded in 1881 by James P. Goodrich and family. The Goodrichs were the first people to live in the town, and they built the first school and store. In 1902, Winter Springs got its own post office. In 1951, Winter Springs became a city.
