During World War I, the city of Winter Springs was home to many artillery pieces and other war equipment. This caused gunsmiths and manufacturers to move from downtown to the older buildings on Washington Avenue. In 1923, the city council passed a ordinance making it illegal to sell or possess any machineguns without a license from the police department. This law was repealed in 1934 after the repeal of Prohibition in America. Gun manufacturing continued until about 1945 when it declined because of advances in production technology. At that time, most gun manufacturers turned their attention to aircraft manufacture instead of firearms production. However, there have been occasional exceptions throughout history (e.g., Ruger Mini-14 rifles) where an American manufacturer produces a gun exported abroad.
There are many types of firearms, but most handguns involve five parts: magazine, frame, hammer/claw extractor, slide and barrel. Rifle parts include the buttstock (stock of a rifle), receiver, bolt carrier group (the part that moves the firing mechanism), stock sights and gun chamber. Strong and Wm Henson that sold shotguns and rifles. In 1895, a rifle shop was opened by Prentice Mathers and continued to be run until 1912 when it became a shotgun shop. In 1911, a post office was established in Winter Springs with the name of “Springfield” as its first lettering on an envelope sent from that location. From 1914-1920, an armory was operated by the United States Army at Fort Brooke which allowed soldiers to purchase firearms for use during World War I and World War II. In 1933, the town organized itself into two precincts with separate police forces which continues until today. The first Precinct was made up of eastern Spring Springs neighborhood while the second Precinct included downtown Spring Springs as well as parts of west Spring Springs east of Uptown Avenue including Grant Park (now called South Hills Park). A new precinct organization took place on November 1st 1978 which combined all areas within downtown Springesville except for east side streets between University Boulevard & Stanton Street (now known as Hoover Road) With this new organization, police services were provided from both precincts instead of just one since they now shared assets such as officers barracks and vehicles among themselves making it easier to respond to emergencies or crimes happening within each precinct rather than having multiple units responding simultaneously to events throughout the citywide area
Winter Springs, Florida is a small town located in Seminole County, Florida. The population was 2,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg- Clearwater metro area. The town was founded in 1892 by Captain John Hays and his family. They named it after Winter Park, Colorado which they had been visiting for vacation. In 1924, the first post office opened in Winter Springs and it remained open until 1959. The current post office building was built in 1935 and has been used as a library since 1975. Winter Springs has a variety of businesses that serve the community including restaurants, banks, shopping centers, an ice rink, a golf course and more. Many residents work in nearby Tampa or St Petersburg while others commute to their jobs in the greater Tampa area.
