In 1914, Dr Jenson Dewey built a home on this site for use as offices and classrooms forWinter Springs Academy which he founded; he served as its first superintendent until his death in 1951 . On November 12, 1922, the name change to Winter Springs College Incorporation occurred when new legislation authorizing incorporation changed Florida law from an open election system into a partisan machine system governed by party bosses .
