At that time it was one of only two towns in Citrus County with a school district; the other being Daytona Beach. In 1903, when Orange County was created from parts of Citrus and Osceola counties, Winter Park became part of that county as well. On February 14th 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt made his first speech in front of what is now known as White Sands Missile Range while vacationing at Palm Springs National Resort & Spa - it would be his last public address before taking office as president two months later on April 12th 1907 On November 1st 1912 voters approved annexation by Kissimmee into Seminole County effective January 1st 1913 In 1916 incorporation by ordinance granted to First National Bank building located at 301 N Main Street in present day Winter Park During World War II many businesses closed down due to wartime restrictions including nails & paper manufacturers Allied Paper Industries and American Paper Company both located downtown In 1945 following V-J Day efforts began to reopen more stores with some success but all ended within 6 months After WWII most businesses reopened except Allied Paper Industries which continued operations until it shuttered in 1951

They named their town after wintering parkers they had seenhexing around the area. The name stuck and Winter Park grew quickly from 575 residents in 1940 to 2,500 by 1949. During World War II, the city became an important manufacturing center for military purposes; during this time, Winter Park boasted one of the largest steel mills in Florida. After the war ended, economic sluggishness set in and business slowed down again. However, some new entrepreneurs started businesses such as restaurant chain Jimmy Dean’s (now Jamba Juice) and department store chain Sears Roebuck & Co.; these businesses helped revive downtown areas like North Avenue/Strip Mall and Main Street/Lake Buena Vista Boulevard while also creating new housing developments such as Riverside Place/University Hills; these areas eventually merged into downtown during the late 1990s when professional development began moving into central Orlando full force In 1957, Mayor Harry Gibbs formed Downtown Development Authority which created incentives for businesses to move into downtown areas like North Avenue/Strip Mall or University Hills; this led to increased business activity throughout central Orlando which helped create more jobs along with increasing tax revenue for government coffers In 1982 Mayor Bobby Dyer issued proclamation declaring December 15th “Winter Park Day” in honor of City Manager Harry Gibbs who had supported local designation The following year saw another dramatic transformation when developer David Ladd purchased majority interest in Sears Roebuck & Co., renamed it Ladd Restaurants Inc.,and initiated rapid redevelopment of several downtown areas including North Avenue/Strip mall into high-end restaurants known today as Millennium District Additionally, Ladd erected office buildings at various intersections near Lake Buena Vista Boulevard while developing shopping centers adjacent to Interstate 4A This pattern continued over ensuing years with further redevelopments taking place near I-4A eastbound exits before finally coalescing around State Road 7 (US 1) forming what is now known as Central Business District or CBD
