Winter Haven is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 36,656 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Winter Haven goes back to 1892 when it was founded as a small town on the banks of the Stono River by Dr. John Schieffer and his family. At that time, it was one of ten towns in Palm Beach County and had a total population of only 100 people. In 1907, Winter Haven became an incorporated city with a population of 1,500 people. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its position as a major military installation for aircraft manufacturer Lockheed Aircraft Company (later Lockheed Martin). After the war ended in 1945, many jobs were lost due to new industry development in South Florida such as Allstate Insurance and Home Depot. However, during the late 1990s and early 2000s there was significant revitalization taking place in Winter Haven with several projects such as the rebirth of Phillips Park which has become one of the most popular park attractions in town; construction of two new high schools; and renovations to numerous homes and businesses throughout downtown area which have resulted in an increase in property values within downtownWinter Haven currently has over thirty acres (12 hectares) designated as Phillips Park which includes: over 20 baseball diamonds, twelve soccer fields, three volleyball courts/areas), six basketball Courts/areas), three water features including an ice rink and four ponds - giving it a capacity for up to 9600 spectators! Additionally there is also situated on top of Phillips Park an amphitheater capable seating up to 25000 individuals! Today, Wintherhaven continues its momentum as one of South Florida’s fastest growing cities with booming job opportunities and continued investment from both residents & businesses alike – making this community ready for another decade or more growth!

Winter Haven is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,872 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the winter season and its position on the Intracoastal Waterway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. The first permanent settler in Winter Haven was John Mapes, who came to what is now Winter Haven in 1868. He founded a post office there and built a cabin on an island in the Intracoastal Waterway. In 1871, Mapes married Anna Maria Snively and they moved to Winter Haven where they started a grocery store andlived until AnnaMaria's death in 1916. Their son John P. Snively opened his own grocery store there in 1924, which remains open today as JPS Grocery Company-Winter Haven. In 1926, Winter Haven became part of Palm Beach County when it was created from parts of Broward and Hillsborough counties. During World War II, many residents worked for military defence plants such as Dow Chemical Company or General Electric Corporation located outside of town limits; however, most people returned home during peacetime. After the war, many new businesses were established including Sears & Roebuck Toys (later KMart), Blockbuster Video (now DVD&Blu Ray), Applebee's restaurant chain (later Pizza Hut) and Sam's Club (later Costco). According to the 2000 census,[1] over 12% of the population had served in either the U.S Military or Law Enforcement services since 9/11/2001.[2] In 2001 Census results[3], winterhaven had 11% African American residents[4] while Hispanics comprised 8%. As of 2010[5], that percentage has increased to 15%. There are also numerous Vietnamese immigrants who have settled here during this time period as well as other international groups such as Spanish speakers from Latin America and Asians from Southeast Asia
