On October 15, 1895, Wilton Manors was founded by Horace Mann and W.H. Macy on a tract of land that is now part of the city of Miami Beach. The two men had come to the area in search of new business opportunities and declared themselves the town's first trustees. Within a year, Mann and Macy were able to start a grocery store and built a sawmill on River Road. In 1897, they erected the first school in Wilton Manors - an academy for girls which operated until 1903. A second school was opened in 1902; this time as an all-boys school known as King's School. In 1907, Mann married his wife Lillie Greenough and became president of their company - making him one of the wealthiest men in South Florida. In 1912, Mann died suddenly at age 70 leaving his holdings to his wife Lillie and their two children (Wilton Manors was then still unincorporated). Two years later, Lillie donated her half interest in the company to Miami Beach City Hall so that it could be used for local civic purposes such as water supply, firewood sales, street paving etc.. The Municipal Water Board has used Wilton Manors Municipal Water System since 1926. In 1922/23 Mayor John Pimentel put together a group of businessmen including Jock Mahoney who organized what is considered to have been the world's first citywide referendum on whether or not annexation should be granted by Miami Beach to become its own municipality... The vote resulted in annexation being given but Wilton Manors never received any money fromMiami Beach City Hall... This situation continued until 1964 when Miami Beach annexed Wilton Manors with no money given back... In 1959/60 Mayor Hildebrandt Reuter created "The Creative Class" program which provided art scholarships for high school students fromWilton Manor

It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Combined Statistical Area. The first Wilton Manors post office was established on November 15, 1892. The name derived from "Wilton" in Norfolk County, England and "Manors" in Sussex County, England. The original post office moved to its present location on Orange Blossom Trail near State Road 7 in 1907. The name may have been chosen because of the beautiful white sand beaches that stretches for almost . According to the 2000 US census, Wilton Manors has a total area of , all of it land. It includes 3 small coves known as the Turtle Ponds which are located within walking distance of most residents and are used for swimming and boating; there is no water available for any other activities outside those few hours during high season when water levels reach a certain level according to state regulations from April through October). As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 11,752 people residing in Wilton Manors village square (which had an unofficial name – "Mall Place") and 4 villages surrounding it: Belle Glade Estates (to the south), Boca Raton Estates (to the north), Cloudcroft Manor (southwest), and Weston Rancho Park (northwest). As some early 20th century maps show only two villages: Belle Glade Estates & Cloudcroft Manor with only 1 or 2 homes each while others depict 5 or more villages with over 100 homes spread throughout several blocks including what is now University Avenue between Belle Glade Estates & Cloudcroft Manor streets; this street became State Road 7 after 1920 when Wilton Boulevard was extended from Belle Glade Estates eastward into Sanford/Lake Worth Country Club territory eastward towards Kissimmee town limits; prior to that time it ran along Water Street between Belle Glade Estates & Cloudcroft Manor Streets forming today's University Avenue corridor.; following World War II military buildups increased housing demand across much Greater Orlando so by 1959 most houses had been constructed within one mile either side of SR7 making University Ave., now part of KISSIMMEE gelateria district possible without going through downtown Business District such as Main Street where many businesses were closed during THAT time period due to lack of business productivity AFTER Pearl Harbor bombings
