Wilton Manors, Florida is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 5,956 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Combined Statistical Area. The name Wilton Manors likely comes from a manor house that was once located there. A post office called Wilton Manor was established in 1892, and the town began to be named for the manor house in 1903. In 1957, the name change to honor Dr. Edwin Wilton who had been an important figure in medical research at Baptist Hospital in Tampa Bay. According to one story, early residents of Wilton Manors were farmers who grew maize and other vegetables on their property. They also raised cattle and horses. By 1900, however, most of the community's residents were either laborers or professionals working in nearby Tampa or St Petersburg. In 1907, developers bought land near Clearwater Beach for $1 million and started building what would become known as "the great white south." Many businesses were founded during this time including Wawa Foods which opened its first store in 1949; Sears Roebuck & Co.; First National Bank; and Gulfstream Airlines (now JetBlue Airways). The area now known as Midtown became home to many large companies during this time while downtown Wilton remained largely rural until after World War II when it experienced a boom thanks to new development around Interstate 495 (then US 41) and State Road 98A (now US 27). After years of decline following the turn of the century – most notably during the Great Recession – growth has resumed recently with several high-profile projects such as CenturyLink Field’s construction starting up since 2006 along with more residential development announced throughout downtown since 2009 including One Citrus Place Condominiums (@CenturyLinkField) Wilton Manors is located about 12 miles northwest of downtown Tampa on I-495 between mile markers 159thand 160th Streets N/S/E about midway between Clearwater Beach Blvd Airport and Westshore Expressway exit 451B Southbound lanes open 7am-10pm daily year round

Wilton Manors is a small town in Broward County, Florida. It was founded by Englishman John Wilton in 1868. The town has a population of about 780 people as of the 2010 census. Wilton Manors is located on U.S. 27 just east of Fort Lauderdale. It is bordered by Pembroke Pines to the north and west, Coral Springs to the east, and Hollywood Park to the south. The area around Wilton had been inhabited by Seminoles since at least 1795 when Captain John Ahern encountered them there while exploring South Florida with Spanish explorer Don Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra. After ceding most of their land to the United States in 1821, they were forced from their homes in 1893 when American forces burned down their villages near what is now Wilton Manor Bridge Road and NE 9th Avenue within sight of present-day Manors Village (now part of Coral Springs). Today, only a few remains from these early days can be found scattered among palms and wild bushes on three miles (5 km) of unincorporated community beachfront property that used to include much more: At an early date mangroves lined both banks of Lake Worth Boulevard; today's only evidence remaining are two large trees still standing atop several smaller ones that once covered much of this stretch of shoreline; stands witness to one day's fishing activity off today's seashore past where today there's only sand and shells John Wilton arrived at Fort Pierce on October 15, 1868, during the construction season for US 1–the future Interstate 95–and immediately began work on a trading post adjacent to what would become his new town site. On November 3 he reported having contracted with Elisha Graves Bond “to erect a storehouse…for containing goods arriving here during our travels through this Territory” For many years thereafter it was assumed that bond functioned as storekeeper for both Fort Pierce and Wilton until it was discovered in 1926 that he also held title as proprietor – or rather manager –of another commercial establishment known then as “The Cotton Exchange” which stood across NW Second Street from present-day State Road 706E between NW Third Avenue and SW Second Street It should be noted here that state road numbers followed county lines until 1920 when they were re-numbered based upon USGS grid positions ; prior thereto some old roads have highway numbers ending in 0 which indicate no connection whatsoever with any particular county At first blush it might seem strange that so little remains from WilTON MANORS' earliest days but consider that it took place mostly within boundaries set for it by other authorities including later developers who continued building despite reminders from officials back then not TO DO SO ! indeed development proceeded unchecked even though residents regularly raised alarms about possible damage done both directly & indirectly thereto !
