Ar15 receivers have been in use for over 50 years. The first rifles designed with an Ar-15 style receiver were made in the early 1960s by Sturm, Ruger and Co. These rifles were called the "Sturm, Ruger Freedom" models. The Freedom model was a gas operated rifle that used a bolt action design. Wilton Manors is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first settlers to the area were farmers and their families who arrived in the early 1800s. By 1836, Wilton Manor had been surveyed and it was decided that it would be a post office named after Colonel George Wilkinson (1784-1868), an American Revolutionary War general and governor of Georgia. In 1858, a road was built from Jacksonville to Wilton Manor and this served as the main artery for transportation between Jacksonville and other communities in Monroe County. In 1886, Wilton Manor became a city on its own separate basis. On February 17, 1912, Lake Worth became part of Wilton Manors when it was annexed by the city; however, on December 5th of that year, Lake Worth reverted back to Volusia County when it was reincorporated into Jacksonville. In 1928, Henry Davenport organized what we now know as Davenport Industries – one of America’s most successful machine tools companies – based in his home on Park Avenue in Jacksonville which he called “The Factory” because all his machines were made there from start to finish. Drifting off into history are many milestones along with people associated with them including Henry Davenport himself who died suddenly just shy of his 90th birthday years ago this past November 4th! This event generated much interest throughout our community due not only to Mr. Davenport’s lengthy life achievements but also the remarkable fact that he leaves behind such lasting legacy both within our community and beyond its borders!
