Wilton Manors is a town in Putnam County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Wilton Manor were Indian scouts led by Colonel James Wilkinson and Lieutenant David Eustis who explored the area in 1835. The first settler was Captain John J. Cook who arrived in 1840 from Georgia with his family. He built a cabin on an old sugarcane plantation next to what is now US 27 (now State Road 528). In 1847 Captain Cook's son, George Cook, sold land near present day Myers Park for $2,000 to Captain Abel Tapping and his wife Martha Cottrell Keyes. They named their new homestead "Wilton Manor". In 1853 Captain Abel Tapping married Anna Maria Keyes and they moved into their own home which still stands today on SW Second Street south of White Sands Boulevard east of US 27/State Road 528: "AnnaMaria keyes" house still stands today on this property as does "Captain Abel Tapping House" which also currently houses a small museum about the history of Wilton Manor including many descendants of those original settlers!
