Today,Wildwood offers a variety of outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, swimming, golfing, hiking/climbing, skiing/snowboarding, horseback riding/walking; as well as many indoor activities such as libraries (four), churches (two), schools (one), restaurants (eleven), businesses (nine) and more than fifty homes & condos available for purchase or rent throughout the community of over 1 square mile

Wildwood is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood–Boca Raton metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Wildwood were Spanish missionaries who came in 1765. A trading post and Christian mission called "El Castillo" was established by Father José de Escobar in 1801 on the west bank of Lake Worth Boulevard. The land around this outpost became known as Brickell Key because of its abundance of bric-a-brac (brickels) and wild fowl that nested there. In 1815, Colonel James Wilkinson purchased land from Escobar for $1,000 and founded Wilkinson's Creek Town on it in 1816. In 1830, Daniel Webster bought 10 acres (40 ha) near present-day Antique Road and began development of what would become Wildwood. He named his property "Websterown". By 1840, over 1,200 people lived in Websterown; it included a schoolhouse and storehouse with a warehouse for storing goods brought into the settlement by wagon trainloads from St Augustine during the Seminole Wars. In 1861, General David Farragut attacked Mobile Bay with his fleet of warships while under orders to protect Pensacola against Confederate naval forces besieging that city at that time; many casualties resulted from musketry fire across open water off shore which did not allow ships carrying munitions or troops ashore to disembark safely due to high seas conditions preventing them from landing any troops or supplies except for cannon fodder and food reserves only until such time as they could be landed onshore before being boarded by Confederate forces seeking to take control of Mobile Bay rather than evacuating their vessels unharmed without enemy opposition). On November 12th 1861 Farragut's flagship USS Constitution suffered damage when hit by oblique shot from CSS Virginia causing her master Commodore David Dixon Leary to order all flags flown at half mast throughout Mobile Bay – an episode now commonly referred to as "the Battle AtMobile". This event made history as the first battle between ironclad warships and Union steamboats outside North America since the opening shots aboard HMS Warrior off Cape Hatteras two years earlier on May 5th 1860 - setting an early precedent for naval engagements between ironclads during World War II era Naval warfare.. On December 3rd 1861 Captain Nicholas Lyon commandeered USS Constitution[4][5] [6] after Commodore Leary had refused orders not to fly flags at half mast because he felt they represented Liberty instead of Defence.[7][8] Lyon ordered all men belowdecks onto deck despite high seas making it difficult for those above decks disembarking with grapnels abaft[9] [10]. Cannonade then continued intermittently throughout night resulting in several killed & wounded along side General Farragut’s flagship USS Constitution including Master Commandant Clifton Gorman commanding “the right wing” squadron belonging to Rear Admiral John Prentice…It has been generally accepted that CSSVirginia fired 65 rounds both main armament giving her an estimated inflicted damage amounting To US Navy ship amounting To about $21 thousand dollars…This engagement represent one out four total Naval engagements fought during The American Civil War
