The community was founded by settlers in 1871 when they arrived from Georgia and were seeking land to drive out Seminole Indians who had taken up residence there since the early 1800s. The original name for Wildwood was Muscogee Trail Town and village site (later Muscogee Trail Landing). A post office was established at Wildwood on October 10, 1871, under the name Muscogee Trail Post Office. The first store in town opened in 1872 and became known as "The Gilded Cage". In 1882 wildfowl were added to the list of items available for purchase at local stores; this led to the nickname "Wildfowl Wonderland". By 1895 wildfowl numbered more than 1,000 individuals and 30 hunting preserves had been organized around them In 1922 wild fowl again became an important factor in business life with major Sporting Gun Clubs opening up throughout Florida In 1934 one third of all retail sales took place through local businesses which continued until after World War II when it gradually declined due to competition from other forms of retailing . A post office called Allatoona closed its doors on November 5th 1912 due to lack of mail volume which resulted from increased travel by military personnel during World War I . A new post office called Allatoona reopened on December 9th 1912 with Ethel Mabel King as first female postal inspector . From 1907 through 1917 there were four church ministers living and working at Allatoona Community Hall: Reverend Fenton Waddell (1907-1917), Reverend Jno Haggerty (1917-1920), Reverend Lillian Kappler (1920-1924)and Mrs Jesse Jameson (1925-1927). However these churches disbanded soon after formation because most people did not use their services . Whence came the idea that a community hall be built? It seems like everyone wanted something their own - probably because no one could come up with anything better! It wasn't until 1935 that a group including old timers Rufus Norris Jr., Vernon McGee and Howell Cobb formed what would become known as “The Oldtimers” Club to do things such as maintain lawns, clean snow off roofs ect….. finally getting around to building a clubhouse in 1957 while also restoring old buildings There have been many different committees responsible for various aspects within Wildwood over time such as beautification committee starting back in 1954 then continuing thru 2006 & 2007; Parks & Recreation Committee started in 1978; Library Board put together plans for library expansion starting back 1976 but never happened till now because funding failed To make any permanent changes outside school District boundaries ever since… etc…..etc…. about 98% or so if you research it enough! Anyway we enjoy having our little piece of heaven here near us just like always!

Wildwood, Florida is a small town located in Leon County, Florida. The population of Wildwood was 3,454 at the 2000 census. In 1873, J.D. Spalding and his brother-in-law Andrew Jackson established what would become the first post office in Wildwood. At that time, there were only three houses and ten residents in Wildwood. By 1903, the population had grown to ninety people and by 1920 it had reached one thousand citizens. During World War II, Wildwood served as a storage depot for the military surplus items being shipped to Europe from local farmers. The downtown area was renovated in the early 1990s and now Hispanic businesses dot the district while African American businesses remain few and far between. The history of Wildwood can be traced back to its establishment as a small farming community on an Indian reservation near Fort Walton Beach over two hundred years ago. In 1872, Jardine Haltom bought land around present day Wildwood from three Choctaw Indians who gave him four mules for transportation to market. When he filed for land patents in 1876, he estimated that his purchase would amount to 1/2 mile square on which he could build twenty homes with four stories apiece and another fifty acres surrounding them for cattle grazing and hunting purposes. In 1877 when James Woyckiewicz arrived in Leon County from Stroudsburg Pennsylvania with plans to develop land east of Fort Walton Beach along US 98 (now US 301), he purchased some of Haltom's original wildwoods including present day Wildwood from Jardine Haltom for $1 million dollars cash plus five hundred shares of stock worth $5 per share which totaled $25 million at the time). Woyckiewicz quickly became involved with developing this new area into one of Leon County's most important communities with stores, churches, schools and residences - soon becoming known as "The City." To appreciate just how significant this development was during its early years you need only take a stroll down Main Street today where many well-known businesses are situated such as Barnes & Noble bookstore chain; UPS; Home Depot; Shell gas station; Subway sandwich shop; Burger King restaurant - just to name a few!
