Weston, Florida is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Weston is known for its horse racing industry and for its annual "Florida Christmas" festival which features an event called the Frosty Snowball Tournament. The first settler in Weston was John Gifford who arrived in 1821 from England. He built a log cabin on what is now State Road A1A near present-day downtown Weston. In 1827, George Washington Carver moved to Weston and set up a farm where he raised cotton and other crops. In 1829, the area became part of Polk County when it was created from parts of Hardee and Davie counties. In 1886, W C Mellon founded the Mellon Bank in West Palm Beach with $5000 dollars donated by him and his wife Fannie Mellon (1863-1939). The bank later became one of the biggest banks in Florida with branches throughout Florida and abroad. The community name "Mellon" comes from this donation as well as W C's initials (WCF). In 1919, during World War I, many military veterans came to Weston to start businesses such as machine shops and foundries that helped support the war effort. After the war ended in 1918, much of these businesses went out of business but some still thrived such as Hapgood’s Clothing Company which continued operations until 1992 when it merged into JCPenney Incorporated On October 15th 1908 by order of Governor Harry Payne Beall Jr., all land east of US Highway 1 along present day State Road A1A were annexed by Weston Village forming what would become today's downtown core - giving rise to one half century of growth for this small town located on State Road A1A just outside Jacksonville proper! Today there are over 950 people living Downtown Weston including businesses like Hyatt Regency Management Corporation(), JCPenney (), Sears Roebuck & Co., KFC (), Subway (), BP Clean Energy LLC (), Papa John's Pizza (), Masterpiece Bakery (). There are also several thousand residents spread out among numerous parks/open spaces surrounding downtown including: Lake Worth Golf Course(), Rollins Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens*, University Place*?, Easley Recreation Center*, Gulfstream Park*, Stroudsburg Library*.

The history of Weston begins with its founding in 1892 as a resort town on Biscayne Bay. The first settlers were Spanish immigrants who arrived in 1892 and soon built community homes and businesses along Flagler Avenue. In 1912, the name of the town was changed to Weston after Dr. John Weston, an American physician who served as president of Johns Hopkins University from 1897-1901 and head of that school's School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine from 1913-1920. In 1937, the name again changed to Weston when it became a city under state law. In 1969, when Palm Beach County formed its beach county boundaries, Weston became one of its six towns within that county's borders. Today, Weston continues to be known for its beautiful beaches - including Doheny Beach which has become one of South Florida's most popular tourist destinations - as well as its cultural attractions such as the Museum of Art and History and Bananas Plantation Museum which depict life during pre-Columbian times in nearby Stonington Island
In 1821, the first white man to set foot on Weston was Captain John Weston. He and his crew of five explored the area that would eventually become Florida. They named their new land "Weston" after themselves.
