Weston, Florida is a town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 21,912 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Weston was founded in 1892 on a trading post near Fort Lauderdale by John Weston and his family. The post grew to include a community that developed around it with plantations and businesses. In 1925, the name of the town was changed to Weston Park after the city of Weston,Florida which then bordered it on the east side. The business district west of I-95 became known as Weston Village while sections north and east of I-95 came to be known as Midtown Weston and Northwest Heights respectively. The city council decided in 1986 that all township residents were required to become citizens before they could vote for or against ordinances passed by the City Council; this effectively ended township government within Weston Park limits although individual residents can still vote in municipal elections held every two years regardless of citizenship status In 2000, construction began on Interstate 95/I-495 bypassing downtown Weston which would have eliminated much of its commercial district but also created new jobs within the city limits. Weston, Florida is a town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 4,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee–Daytona Beach–Emmetsburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Weston comes from the Seminole word wateon, meaning "place where water flows." In 1821, Captain John McIntosh and his crew were Lost Expedition and discovery of new land in Polk County by American explorers. They named their new discoveries after General James Kenedy who had been with them on that expedition: Walton (Captain McIntosh), Macquarie (John Hawkins), and Fort Walton (Hannibal Smith). The first white settlers arrived in what is now Weston around 1836 when Andrew Jackson's brother-in-law, George Hill built a cabin on Misery Creek near present day State Road 209. He also bought 5 acres of land south of the creek for $100. By 1840, more settlers had arrived and by 1845 there were 21 families living in Weston. In 1851 local surveyor Jeptha Reese surveyed part of what is now Weston Township but no buildings or outbuildings were erected until about 1865 when roads were improved and a post office was established at the corner of Court Street and School Lane. The first school was built in 1870 as an addition to the home of Mrs. Eliza Cooks which still stands today as a national historic landmark within walking distance of Weston’s library complex. This society offered free education to children from homes throughout Polk County through Sunday school classes starting with grade one until lessons ended for all levels in 1907; however this society only lasted until 1913 due to lack of financial support from local residents/leaders during hard times following Reconstruction period When General Wm Hargrave invaded Florida during the American Civil War he chose to cross over into Indian Territory rather than battle against Confederate forces which would have required him to travel northbound through central Florida After Ulysses S Grant's victorious victory over Confederate forces at Appomattox Court House Ira Harris became governor due to Ulysses S Grant being impeached so soon after his inauguration instead Harris appointed Gadsden Parish Judge William Ladddridge who served until 1865 when he resigned due to ill health During this time many farms bypassed Pompano Beach because it was too expensive or difficult accessibility by wagon road because offramps existed just east side state road 19 miles west Pompano Beach) so much so that today only one house remnant remains on mile long stretch between US 1&2 exit #3 & Pompano Beach Blvd., formerly known as OffRamp Rd., used primarily for golf carts running parallel US 1 & 2 lanes past several businesses including CVS Pharmacy before crossing back onto US 1 just prior exit #3B becoming private property owned by developer Ronan Development Corporation
In Weston, Florida, the first white man to live in the area was James Cook on November 3, 1764. The town was founded by land speculators who bought a tract of land from the Seminole Tribe. When it became known as Weston, they named it after King George III of England. On December 12, 1821, Captain John Sitton and his party discovered the Achecahatchee River and began trading with the tribe. In 1826, Spanish explorers discovered Fernandina Bay and renamed it Santa Isabela. The town of Santa Isabela was abandoned in 1912 when it was annexed by Tampa.
