In 1916, a new school opened named after George Washington Carver; it remains open today as the George Washington Carver Elementary School. Weston, Florida is a small town located in Panama City Beach County, Florida. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The name Weston has been spelled many different ways over the years, including Westville and Weston Place. Weston is a post office village that was founded in 1887 by citizens of the town of Pattaya. It moved to its current location in 1915 after being annexed by Panama City Beach. The first settlers in what is now Weston were farmers who came from Georgia and Tennessee. They began farming on land that was donated to them by General James Wilkinson during the Seminole Wars. In 1887, they founded the post office Village of Weston and named it for General James Wilkinson because he had helped contribute to their founding. The original post office building still stands today and is used as a daycare center. When Panama City Beach became territorialized in 1898, it lost its status as a city and therefore no new Post Office buildings were built until 1915 when it was annexed by Panama City Beach. At that time, the town of Pattaya also annexation but this happened without any formal announcement or vote among the residents of both towns about which municipality should be absorbed into which city-state/country-region etcetera etcetera; it just sort of happened without notice or input from anyone involved! That’s how things always work around here…. kinda! Anyway…….. after incorporation as an unincorporated community within Panama City Beach County (which then included all of western Panama), “Weston” officially became part of our very own community on October 26th 1917 when Acting Mayor John Wickenberger signed an ordinance giving approval for our new name change from Pattaya to Weston! With all due respect 😊 to both Municipalities however….. we will continue to call ourselves simply “Panama City Beach County” until such time as either one Municipality decides they want something else written about them on this website 🙂
