Today Weston is a small town that is home to about 1,200 people and covers 5 square miles on two sides of Fort Myers Beach. It includes part of Coconut Grove, one of Lee County's most well-known neighborhoods dating back to the 1800s when sugarcane farmers built their homes hereabouts. In addition to its rich colonial history, Weston also boasts some modern amenities such as a library, hospital and post office (all open Monday through Friday).

In 1859, the United States acquired what is now Naples, Florida from Spain for $10,000. This led to the founding of Naples by American businessmen John S. Williamson and J.P. Weston in 1861.
