Weston, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–The Villages Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was first settled by Germans in the 1840s. In 1871, Weston became a station on the newly created Key West Railroad and soon developed into a agricultural village with several sawmills, grist mills, farms and two hotels. The first post office opened in 1872 and remained in operation until it closed in 1895. In 1925, Weston's first African American resident was Julius Crouch. A school for black students was built that year and named after him. In 1938, Weston annexed nearby Biscayne Heights to form a new municipality which included most of what is now Weston today as well as much of SouthMiami and NorthWest Kendall municipalities which had already been annexationed by Miami-Dade County when it formed from southern Dade County and northern Miami-Dade County on January 1, 1938. As development began to slow down throughout the 1940s and afterwards due to World War II restrictions on transportation links between south central Florida (then known as "the Keys") and north central Florida (then known as "Miami"), residents voted to secede from Dade County effective November 3rd, 1948 pursuant to an act of Congress called the Statute of Liberty Act of 1947 which granted voting rights to all citizens regardless of race or color within United States political boundaries without paying property taxes or providing any services other than those necessary for government operations within those boundaries - effectively becoming their own municipality separate from Dade County but still subject to county regulations regarding zoning (housing developments were limited to single family homes). On December 15th 1960 while they were still considered part of Dade County under Statute Of Liberty Act provisions governing secession ordinances had been passed by referendum following approval by voters in Broward/Miami-Dade Counties reincorporating all unincorporated areas east of IH-10 including Weston intobrowardcounty; this action effectively terminated county jurisdiction over Weston Municipality thereby allowing for full economic development including growth in heavy industry associated with tourism with no mention being made whatsoever about annexation possibilities provided prior thereto by county planners who knew full well that if annexation occurred any growth potential would be completely lost because land area currently annexed would revert back again back onto its original private owners whereas current annexations provide public lands used for public purposes such as parks etc., thus continuing what has been an ongoing source of tension between city officials & farmers who have always enjoyed exclusive rights to use local resources while city officials have typically favored suburban developers access to larger parcels) On July 24th 1961 amendments were passed implementing provisions set forth hereinabove reacquisition procedures should annexation requests not be received within one year following ratification either through legislation or resolution duly passed by both Houses thereof rendering such requests invalid; these amendments remain active unto this present day ensuring that City Officials continue negotiations with farmers & developers seeking access to valuableLocal resources while at the same time preventing them from successfully taking away City Officials' Exclusive Rights

The first citrus crop was grown in Weston in 1875, and Weston's name has been associated with oranges ever since. In the 1930s, the citrus industry declined in Weston due to insect infestations and cheaper produce from other areas of Florida. However, the resurgence of the fruit industry in Weston during the 1990s led to new development around the town center and its orange production facilities.
