West Park is a small town in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. West Park was founded in 1892 by General James W. Folsom and his family as a citrus growing community on Lantana Peninsula near present-day Orange City. In 1906, Folsom donated land to the city of Orlando for improvements and development as West Park Village. The village became a municipality in 1907 and annexed portions of Sanford in 1959. The growth of East Lake Tahoe within Citrus County has led to a decline in population at West Park since the early 2000s; however, it still retains its rural feel with subsistence agriculture being the primary economic activity. According to the 2010 census, nearly 60% of residents are Floridians or descendents thereof and 30% are immigrants from other countries. According to official documents filed with Citrus County government, West Park had an assessed valuation of $2 million as of June 2017. In 2016, West Park applied for approval from the county to sell off land that forms its center including several blocks surrounding Main Street which would have resulted in a loss of over $30 thousand per acre.

West Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. West Park was developed between 1904 and 1912 by George W. Sheppard and his brother Julius Sheppard as an agricultural community on a tract of land that had been owned by their father. The first post office in West Park was established in 1905, and the first settler to arrive was John Tatum from New York City on July 10, 1906. In 1911, George W. Sheppard developed a business park called "Sheppard's Wonderland" which included an amusement park, beachfront hotels and other businesses. Many of these properties were purchased by the Cuban government for use as sugar cane plantations during Fidel Castro's regime of Cuba; they remain in private hands today. In 1924 the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce recommended that Miami voters annex West Park because it would afford more benefits than any other CDP withinMiami Beach proper: "the annexation would give [West Park] its own police department, fire department and school district." On March 3, 1925 referendum results showed that 63% of residents voted to annex into Miami Beach while only 37% opposed it; however this vote did not become effective until 1959 after several changes to city charter ordinances regarding annexation contests were made. In 1949 riots erupted around Key Biscayne when white students protested plans to open up Prospect Avenue to vehicular traffic without prior consent from African American homeowners; subsequent protests led to increased restrictions on black access to key thoroughfares in South Florida during the early 1950s termed "The School Desegregation Movement".
In the early 1800s, West Park was a small settlement located in what is now Polk County, Florida. The land that became West Park was part of the St. Augustine Plantation. The plantation was originally owned by Captain George Rogers Clark and his wife Lady Mary
