West Park is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida and the county seat of Miami-Dade. The population was 2,828 at the 2010 census. West Park is situated on the edge of the Miami metropolitan area and is bordered by Overtown to the south, Midtown to the east, Everglades National Park to the north and northwest, and Kendall Lakeshore to the west. It was established as a municipality in 1917. The history of West Park can be traced back to 1907 when landowner John L. Hickey donated what is now known as Hickey Woods Municipal park in what is now downtown West Park. In 1917, voters approved incorporation of West Park as a city with a population of 10,000 people. At that time it was one of only three cities in South Florida without electric lights or streetcars. The first mayor of WestPark was Averill Harriman who served from 1917 until his death in 1923; he was succeeded by Elisha Mazzie who served for six years before being impeached for bribery and corruption charges which led to his removal from office and Mr. Harriman becoming mayor again between 1926-1930 After Mr. Harriman's death Mayor Jules Steinberger (1930–1932) increased spending on parks while maintaining some environmental features such as tree planting but also increasing taxes rates including an increase from $1 per gallon gasoline to $5 per gallon effective June 1st 1931 . Mayor Steinberger also made extensive renovations including new streetscapes that are still seen today with many homes dating back to this time period having been updated since then like Elysee Drive which intersects Lincoln Road near US Biscayne Boulevard just outside modern day DowntownWestPark

West Park, Florida was a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Southeast Miami–Dade region. It was founded on November 11, 1922 by developer Orlando Hickey as a tract of land in what is now the University District of West Park. The area had been inhabited by Biscayne Bay people for centuries before that. The first residents were white and many came from Tampa to find work in the new city after World War II ended. By early 1951, black residents had immigrated to West Park as well and it became one of the most diverse areas in South Florida. In 1969, when Dadeland Land Company merged with fellow Tampa-based landowner Community Development Corporation to form Suncoast Properties Inc., WPDC became Suncoast's corporate headquarters and its primary business focus shifted from agriculture to real estate development and management. In 1984, Suncoast Properties sold its interests in West Park to two other entities - First American Real Estate Partners (FAR) and Gulf Coast Realty Associates - which formed an affiliate called Gulf Coast Realty Partners LP (GCRP). GCRP then acquired all of FAR's assets including both WPDC's corporate headquarters building and its main office park across MidtownMiami from Citigroup Center until it sold them all off in 2002 to One Financial Group Incorporated for $1 billion dollars ($ ). After years of neglect, restoration began on both WPDC brick buildings during Mayor Tomas Regalado's administration between 2006 and 2009; this included restoring significant portions of their facade including replacement windowsills dating back to 1896 that flanked each doorjamb inside the former corporate HQ building ; repainting nearly every surface inside GCRP/Gulf Coast properties' property boundaries; installing new lighting fixtures throughout; adding physical plant features such as water systems, green roofs/canopies etc.; refurbishing several alarm systems within GCRP property boundaries while also maintaining some cultural heritage items like fire extinguisher booths located throughout each property boundary; finally exterior painting using an environmentally friendly paint approach lasting up to 12 months per job allowing use of natural light sources indoors without sacrificing coloration
West Park, Florida was founded in 1892 by brothers John and Augustus Polk. The town was named for the West Park House, which was built in 1881 on land that had been donated by the Polk family. The house became a hotel and served as the primary center of town until it burned down in 1912. In 1926, the city purchased the building from the Polk family and used it as a library. The library was closed in 1978 but has been restored and is now open to the public.
