West Park is a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2010 census, its population was 134. It is located on the north side of the county, adjacent to Overtown and south of downtown Miami. The area now known as West Park was first settled by Germans in 1857, and at its peak had a population of 100 people. The community became part of Miami when it was annexed by the city in 1898. West Park, Florida is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Kissimmee-Mallory River and is bordered by Lake Mary to the north and east, Miracle Mile to the south, and Pompano Beach to the west. West Park began as a small agricultural community in 1892. By 1907 it had grown to include over 100 homes and was known as one of "the most beautiful towns in Brevard County." In 1919 it became an incorporated municipality. At its peak during World War II it had a population of over 1,000 people. Today West Park has a population of only 500 people and is sharecropping land with neighboring Pompano Beach. The town's history can be traced back to 1892 when pioneers arrived from Georgia looking for land suitable for farming after being driven out of their original home by Indians. They named their new settlement West Park after nearby Hutchinson Island which they found abandoned due to heavy Seminole Indian attacks during that year's Seminole War. The first residents were white men; however, soon thereafter black settlers began arriving from South Carolina and other parts of the United States as well. By 1907 there were more than 100 homes in West Park with many families living together on large lots like those still seen today along Kissimmee Boulevard between First Street (now US 19) and Second Street (now SR 4). In 1919 West Park became an incorporated municipality when all but one of Brevard County's 27 villages merged into one government under then-Mayor James Aiken Sr.. That same year saw another realignment within Brevard County when Plantation Road was moved from unincorporated Palm Beach County proper intoBrevard County limits making West Park part of both counties for tax purposes until annexation into Palm Beach proper following World War II brought about increased growth within Brickell Country while also increasing competition for available housing among wealthier citizens in downtown Palm Beach while much less development occurred in or around East Lake Village where today's shopping malls are located - this despite predictions made by some local planners early on that incorporation would lead to increased activity along Kipling Road near Airport Boulevard which would lead ultimately to moredevelopment along Airport Boulevard itself albeit without any formal plan or designation!
