West Park is a small town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is located on the South Coast of Florida east of West Palm Beach. The name "West Park" was given to the community by Major General John P. Worth in 1912 as part of a parcel of land which he had purchased from David Hogg and his wife Jennie Worth. Worth desired to establish an agricultural and military reserve within easy distance of his home at Boynton Beaches. In 1915, Worth donated additional land for the park and named it after himself, West Park Manor. In 1927, another donation by General Worth provided for a public golf course and clubhouse at West Park Manor. At that time, only 2% of the total land area in Palm Beach County was used for parks or other recreational purposes; however, this donation helped make West Park one of the most popular destinations in town. The golf course has been expanded multiple times over the years with new green space added to include today's lakeside areas as well as tennis courts and basketball courts (the first being built in 1948). On July 1st 1957, following approval by voters on November 3rd 1956*, West Park became a part of Palm Beach County through an act passed by Congress known as “The Parks Amendment” *. On October 15th 1962* when its boundaries were changed due to annexation into neighboring Broward County *Westpark officially merged with neighbouring city/county Fort Lauderdale under City Hall Rule No 7-2-1963*. As such both communities enjoyed all the benefits associated with countyhood including representation on county committees etc.* Just prior to this merger there had been some excitement because Fort Lauderdale wanted their own park just northwest of their downtown area so they could compete with what they saw as an inferior product from Palm Beach County (* along with many other towns annexed during that time*). However this did not happen and Fort Lauderdale residents continue to enjoy access to westPark resources even though their city boundary now meets that ofbroward county! [*This amalgamation also included much smaller villages surrounding westPark such as Deerfield Village which functions more like a neighbourhood today]

During World War II, it was one of Gainesville's largest employers with over 1,500 workers employed at various factories and plants within its boundaries. After the war ended in 1945, growth resumed in postwar years with additions to the park such as an ice rink and Donatello Stadium which seat up to 12,000 people each night during events like concerts and circuses
